TBI Vrs CARB
TBI Vrs CARB
so...2 inch TBI , 65 lb injectors, or, ...carb...i have a edelbrock 600 just sitting in my garage literally collecting dust....so this would be a fairly free mod other than the 3 port adjustable fuel pressure regulator.....how much hp diff we talking about between the two??
IMHO stay with fuel injection. The swap is far more advanced than you think it is. You have to get a new distributor, intake manifold, rip out all the wiring, and a lot more. Just about any type of fuel injection will have an advantage over carb on a daily driven car. Going carb is like taking a step back as far as i'm concerned. STICK WITH TBI!!!

And if you were going to use a carb for the fuel delivery, at the very least, keep the ECM for the spark control. That is another big advantage of EFI.

You all should know my opinion. It's not worth expressing though, have you posted this on the carb board?

you could put a carb on...and totally ruin a good Camaro. IMO unless you one hell of a beast breathing fire out the exhaust then keeping the OEM fuel injection is the way to go.

What kind of mods do you have? Is this for a 305?
I'd say very very general below 300 hp stay TBI or 350+ hp go carb.
Tuning with a carb will be much easier/possible, if you don't like/want to get into EPROM burning.
IMO, the TBI style of fuel injection doesn't limit power at all, it's mostly the factory stock parts(intake, heads, exhaust, cam) and the fact that TBI is a speed density system which requires CHIP TUNING when any major mods are performed.

WRONG. including myself. say i ruined my car - i guess its my decision. no chips to mess with, no burning ****. just a screwdriver, its better. ya can listen to these guys or take your chances and be another one to switch to carb. i dont know its onlk like a 100% satisfaction rate - up to you

I know a lot of people that went carb and didn't want to nore were they impressed with the results. When you drive it as a daily driver you'd be amazed how limited your tuning gets.
Why mess around with dirty carbs, fuel spill, screws, under the hood work when you could sit in the drivers seat and change your timing....or highway mode, or fuel corrections. How about this novel idea....have the car tell YOU what is wrong with it. Last I heard the talking OBD version 0.2 didn't give you much feedback
.Oh, and the "no burning ****." is exactly the opposite of EFI. EFI uses that **** to make power and every heard of decell fuel cut-off? How about a rev limiter or detonation detection.
I've voiced it before and I'll do it again if I must..... go carb if you have no computer skills what so ever but keep EFI if you can read and have a few hours learning the basics.
If anything the computer is still good for spark delivery!
Oh, and I'm going to school to be a mechanical engineer....you'd have thought I would go with the mechanics and picked carb....NOT!!!
All in good fun, don't take any of it personally like I usually do

The swap isnt very advanced...its cake.
Im happy with my carb swap. It starts easier than TBI did, runs just as good in cold, cant tell you if the difference in MPG since I went from a TBIed 305 to a carbed 350.
Mine does run rich tho. Mainly because I have alittle to much carb right now. Eventually I will need it all.

Jon, your post (like all others) have yet to change my mind. Wierd that my major is listed as Computer Engineering....
BTW, I have not once regretting throwing my TBI away. The only thing I miss is the cruise control. For some reason I have a fetish with cruise control
