Vortec intake question

I did a search, and didn't find anything on this. I was wondering if anyone knew if you could make a performer TBI intake manifold work on a set of Vortec heads. Has this been done? Can it be done?

Thanks

I think it can be done, but it requires welding and cutting. The easiest way would be to buy a vortec style intake and use a tbi adapter plate. The main difference in vortec style is only 8 intake bolts, where as sbc style has 12 bolts. If your going to the trouble of putting on vortec heads might as well put a nicer intake on too.

Also... another alternative is to buy the TBI/Vortec intake manifold from www.sdpc2000.com

I haven't studied it TOO far yet (but I should since I have a set of Vortec heads ), but from what I've read, it works pretty well AND has a set-up to use the EGR valve. You have to plumb it off either the exhaust manifold or the header (depending on what you have) and they sell a kit to do that with.

It does get pricey though. The intake ALONE costs ~$310. By the time you get all the needed parts for the EGR, it comes close to $500

Try to PM " Chuck! ". He put some Vortecs on his 305. I don't know exactly what he did, but I'm sure he'll help you. He's an "OK" guy.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the info. I think I am just going to sell my Performer TBI intake and go with a Vortec AirGap with an adapter plate.

I am getting the kit from Scoggins Dickey for about $950. Hopefully, I can recoup about $125 on my old preformer TBI intake.

I have a 350 with vortec heads using the gmpp vortec tbi intake and I plumbed in the egr.

the vortec heads have a raised intake runner design, before I got my intake in I set a regular tbi manifold on there and it didn't even cover the ports on the heads. you could look right past the top of the manifold and into the intake ports on the heads. doing this swap raised the top of my aircleaner about 1/2 inch (it now hits my hood insulation)

Hey Knox, with the 950 bucks your spending on the vortec package why not just go with some aluminum heads and use your exsisting manifold.

Try looking at these.

Well, I was looking at the AFR's, but by the time you add everything up you need to put them in (Which is included in the $950 for the vortec kit), you come out about $500 more.

Yes the AFR's are nice but so are some of the others when comparing them to your stock heads. The Trickflows arn't a bad deal and the gaskets won't cost to much and you also have a better choice of manifolds should you decide to change it.
