ducting ac to intake

i heard my friend say that his friend (i know how this sounds) ducted his ac vents to his intake to give him very cold cold air induction, anyone know if this is possible? it sounds kinda cool

i don't see how you're pulling enough mass/volume of air to feed the intake. soudns like a way to get a couple degrees cooler with lots of tacky ducting and kill your compressor in the process.

I doubt the AC flows enough for the engine, unless of course its a LO3

plus when the compressor turns on it takes away about 5-10 hp

i was thinking also... what if you hooked the smog pump to an open element? i know its a small hole, but that little sucker pushes out quite a bit of air spinning at high rpms... who knows i'm probably talking out of my A$$ lol but something to think about

Why not just go.. buy one of those huge scoops that stick up a foot above the hood... put that on your hood.. buy one of those flat air filters that the 4th gen F-bodies use, and mate that up to your TBI so the air come in the scoop, straight down to the filter and then stragiht into the TBI from the top.

Now you have a huge filtered ram-air intake that will push a lot of air into your intake. All done for a fairly decent price.. plus.. it's blower ready when you get around to buying one.

thats more like an adequate supply of cold air, not ram air

ac mod: its well known that cooler air can add 6 or 7hp.... its also well known that the AC robs about twice that... so no help.

smog pump mod: IT DOESNT FLOW ENOUGH AIR! i donno how meny times its been said but think of it this way... its drawing more power from the motor by being turned then its helping pump with air... in otherwords, you lose power.

"ram air" mods: there is no such thing as ram air..... at no speed that any street car is capable of is there going to be any increase of pressure do to any type of scoop.
it does however allow cooler air in the engine. so it can be somewhat helpful..

now if you want more power by cooling the intake charge, try a nice shot of n2o......

i dont know about that air pressure thing, a basic study of aviation tells me that air increases in density and pressure the more turbulant it is... so a ram air effect would yield gains in that your bringing fresh, cold outside air in, the part about it being any colder that outside air temps is untrue, unless you were in a full on head wind...but the air is still more dense as it crashes straight into the bores and you get a better fuel mixture, even at 30mph you would get a drastic inprovement of more air for your intake.

i believe it was in motortrend a couple of issues ago but ford was doing something like that with the lightning, i think it was that they were running a second condencer by the front of the throttle body so it could have colder air enter the intake. it wasnt that it hasnt been done but that r-12 was toxic when being burned(if some was to leakand get into the combustion chamber.)and the 134-a wasnt like that.but motor trend seems to think at the most the hp gains would be about 50 hp.but thats also supercharged too.
