EGR questions
EGR questions
I hooked up my egr for the first time today. At the same time I changed the oil, and spark plugs, and coil to an msd. With the egr hooked up the engine idled rougher, had a vary slight stumble on light throttle and seem to have less power. Does this sound about right? I know how my carbed engine use to act with an egr, but i thought the computer corrected for it so she wouldnt stumble. I also thought egr was not active on idle.
1.Do those symptoms sound normal?
2.What is the vacuum line to TB for? I thought the little motor made the vacuum.

Maybe it was disconnected because it wasn't working right. Did you check the function of the EGR- is it working properly? Maybe it is stuck open, causing exhaust to flowinto the engine at all times.

Also you thought the little motor made vacuum- where is this little motor? Not sure what you;re talking about here.

. I know the big block is at least a little diferent because the egr is next to the water neck.Charlo

Hmmmm, that is tough- I never heard of that setup. Can you physically work the ERG diaphram to see if it sounds OK.
Did you try driving it without the EGR connected?
How did you integrate the two wire EGR system into your existing setup?
I am not familiar with the EGR setup from the 454 motors. I imagine you'd need to determine what the 2 wire setup is for before it will truly work correctly.

I used the truck computer and harness.
Yes it is called a egr vacuum solonoid by the parts companies.
Still not sure why it has vacuum from TB and a seperate line to egr and a little filter on it.
My current thought is that the motor I happened to pull I believe has a cam in it. I believe that is why she idles ruff.

are you getting vacuum an the EGR valve at idle, if so the solonoid this is just a switch that when the computer tells it to open the EGR valve allows Vacuum to the EGR. If you are getting vacuum at idle after the solonoid the solonoid is bad, if not the EGR is bad, has it triped an CheckEngine light yet, if so what was the code.
