Filtering and Headers

Without endless searching through previous threads, I have a question. Will an non-drop 14*3 open element air filter with an Xstream lid filter be too much air for my stock L03? I am also thinking about buying some cheap >150$ headers any suggestions only that it regulate with my basic stock setup. I am not good with tuning and haven't asked any of my friend wrenches yet but I'd like to stay away from that for a while.

It won't be too much air. The more filter the better, because once it gets dirty the filter will keep doing what it's meant to do.

It's only gonna take in as much air as it can push out. By using the open element and the X-steam filter, you are just removing any restrictions to it getting that air.

For the headers what type, not what brand, should I purchase. I keep reading posts about losing power when installing headers and I want to gain power. So what size should I look at buying for power increase not just better sounding?

How much should I expect to spend on a non-drop open element air filter and xstream lid?

Check this out: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=33246

If you are planning on keeping the 305 or maybe even going the 350 route (depending on the build), shorty headers like the Hooker 2460s or 2055s will do. If however, you want to drop a stroker with even more cubes your best bet is probably gonna be longtubes. How emmisions legal you want to keep your car will also play into effect here.

Emissions aren't really a concern of mine, since my area doesn't have them. I am probably going to stick with the 305 for quite sometime. I have found that the book How to build Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget had a very useful chart on header selection. Could anyone give me that data or scan it. Thanks a bunch.
