How you like my setup?

zz4 cam
vortec heads complete with performance springs good from 500+ and milled to 58 cc
power plus vortec specific intake manifold
5.7 lt. tbi unit custom made for my application
tbi spacer
custom chip by tbichips.com specifically made for my application

what do you think of my combo, problems i might run into. and what horsepower do you think ill make and what time do you think i can get at the track considering my other mods.

I helped out a guy with that exact setup on here. DevilsAdvocate, i think. He ended up switching to carb though, he didn't want to mess with the tuning part. He ran a 13.16 last week, not bad for a 305. One thing I would suggest is don't mess with a 5.7 TBI, just go ahead and get a holley 670 tbi. Also don't expect the custom tuning to be a one time perfect thing, it's a slow process and takes a few chips to get it perfect.

With proper tuning you should have a mid 13 sec car.

Don't you mean a 14.16? I dont think he was able to break into the 13's with his carb. I actually believe he would have been faster with the tbi, but oh well.

I actually tried to buy the holley 670 tbi a few times on ebay but i lost the auctions. After doing some research on here ive heard some bad things about the holley units and about customer service for the holley tbi's. Ive also wondered about going carb but I have usually been swayed over to the tbi side.

Me and my dad are going to try to install everything ourself and was wondering if you guys had any tips on getting everything done right or maybe some forewarning on problems i might run into such as the throttle bracket placement?

And any other comments or suggestions are welcome. I havent bought my tbi unit yet so i still can be swayed to go carb!!

and if devils advocate went 13.1 with this setup i am very eager to see what my setup will do. even if he went 14.1 id be happy. i originally was going to go with the lt1 cam but heard from people that alllready have it that they wished they would of went with a little more radical of a cam. its just a matter of how much tuning you want to do, but when you do finally tune it right *** damn do you have a fast *** peice of american muscle!!

Your right, it was a 14.16 @ 96 mph. He said it was still running really rich, so my guess is that it's a mid 13 sec setup.

And yes, alot of us who went with LT1 cams wish we went bigger, me being one of them. The good side was I didn't have to upgrade springs on the vortecs to run a LT1 cam. I'm positive that I've got a low 14 sec setup with some more tuning work. If I can get down to a 14.2 or so I think with DR's I could break 13's. So your setup will take alot of computer tuning but I think you'll be more happy with tbi than carb. Simply because computer control, and computer monitoring is "very niice".

sounds like a descent setup, the ZZ4 cam made it to my 'final' list of cams, i descided to go with something that IMO will make a little more power, but i paid for it getting a custom grind cost me, hopefully it will all be worth it ! ! !

i too, think with that setup, you should be running a holley 670, or at least a 454 unit, IIRC the 5.7 TBI, is the same size as the 5.0, but has diffrent injectors (someone correct me if i am wrong) and reality is, the 305 unit, just will not flow what that engine of yours is going to need at the upper RPMs. and with your cam, your power is going on the upper end.

you might also head out to your local scrap yard, maybe you could find a 454 TB on a truck might be worth a trip.

there's a guy on ebay selling stock tbi units bored out to 2" with the throttle shafts milled down for 159.00 exchange. that's cheaper than i've seen holley 670s and 454 tbis go for on ebay.

i think that's the best way to go. all the linkages and plugs bolt directly on. all you need to do is take your intake to the machine shop and have the holes enlarged to 2". something you'd have to do with the holley or 454 tbi units, anyway.

now, i'm sure someone will come on and tell of finding that 670 holley only used by a little old lady on sundays for 5.00, but, in the real worls, 159.00 is hard to beat.

the trick to winning those auctions is to "snipe" them.

you wait till there's less than 10 seconds on the auction to put in your bid. that way, there's not enough time for ebay to automatically place a reply bid from the current high bidder.

out of the last 10 auctions i've sniped, i've only lost 2. there's actually software that'll snipe for you. i know at least one of the auctions i lost was to a guy with that program.

good luck
