Timing advance question?

I am going to try to advance me timing in a couple days. But before i do it, i wanted to find out if there are any disadvantages to it. Will it make it idle differently? What kind of drawbacks are there? Also any helpful advice will be appreciated.

You should run Winaldl if you can to check your knock counts. Advance it like 2* at a time and keep checking it. I advanced mine 6* right off the bat and it pulled harder and idled smoother but I was getting an insane amount of knocks on winaldl (none that were audible) on 89 octane. Other than that there really aren't any downsides to advancing it a little. At 4* right now it idles smooth, pulls hard, and I think your gas mileage should increase as well.

I upped mine to 6* advanced, it idles slightly higher, only drawback is rising gas prices. Oh well.
