Code 44

Getting engine code 44 - lean mixture. I'm smelling gas while driving and their are no signs of leaks. Checked the fuel filter and lines and haven't seen anything. I'm now getting 12 mpg so wherever the leak is its a big one. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I have strted getting the same code 44, but only right after enrichment mode/warm up and then it will go away and not come back until the car has sat long enough to get cold again. So it is only during the transition between cold and really warmed up. Any ideas before I start checking and replaceing?

Well after I tested everything imaginable it came down to my fuel injectors. I would test your resistance on them, mine was 6.5 ohms on my 305 tbi. It should be higher if you have a 350. Check your fuel pressure too, should be around 13psi. Good Luck

I also have a 305, are they suppose to be 6.5 ohms or is that what you had on your's?

There supposed to be, my new ones were 6.5. If its higher you running rich, lower running lean.
