9" Aussie rear end 3.42 limited slip!!

How much do ya think the 9"Aussie rearend with 3.42 limited slip is worth? It came out of a late 80's F-Body only had around 20,000 miles on it, hell its still got good paint on it. This dude say's he'll sell it to me for $300, it had rear disc brakes. Only thing that comes is the rearend though. But all I need is the disc brake setup it will bolt right up to the axels. On the drum brake axel you have to get different axels to go to disc don't you? I'll have to pay for shipping from the mid-west somewhere to Florida, so I might be able to get him to come down some? What do ya think? I haven't the first clue how much a rearend like this should cost? Please help, Bobby

$300 isn't bad if the posi unit is in good shape, and everything is working correctly.

btw, the 9bolt never got 3.42s it had 3.45s

I'm going to e-mail him back, I think he had the 3.42 & Aurburn LSD installed. He's got a Moser 9" now.

auburn LSD sounds right, i beleive all thirdgens got auburn units. and 3.42 vs 3.45 is a common mistake, as 10bots and 12bolts have 3.42's

It's not a 9" diff, it's only a 7.75" diff.

Make sure you get the 89 disc setup since that is the PBR aluminum calipers.

Hay ya! Its a 3.70 LSD rear end! I've never heard of this one, it came out of his '89 Formula 350, he's got a 9" Moser Ford unit so he can quickly change his gear ratio. He also just installed a blown stroker motor, thats why he took it out. He sent me some pictures of his Formula 350, its BAD. Shipping will cost $70-$80. I think I'm going to get it. Hell I can't get limited slip for under $400
3.70 gears $183.95*
LSD $425+*
install kit $89+-$10*
32 spline $249* Total$946.95*
*All prices from http://www.summitracing.com
I can't pass it up!! For a little under $400.
Anybody have any info or know any web sites about the GM Aussie rear end made in '89?
I think I'll have to get me one of thoes nice Summit aluminum differential covers before I install it though.

Does anyone know where I can get some PBR aluminum calipers that came on some of these rear ends? Or even a cheap set of steel calipers. I'm going to put aftermarket drilled and slotted rotors on it. Will I need a new master cylinder and or a proportioning valve when I change my car from drum to disc? Any help on this matter would be nice. Thanks, Bobby

its been a while since i went over this...

you shoudl be able to use 89+ 9bold disk brakes, they are the PBR calipers, using those, i beleive they use the same prop valve as the earlier disk/drum cars (that might be 1le, blah, i can't remeber) you shouldn't need a new MC, the only thing you might need is a prop valve. check the suspension board, it would have a definate answer.
