A new project

Well Gentlemen I have had fun with my RS in its current setup but its time to go a step further.I am giving my engine to a friend and today I purchased a 72 350 for a new project. My goal is to hit mid 13's. I want to run a simular setup to the GMPP 350 HO. Here it is tell me what you think:

72 350
9:5:1 compression
comp cam w/ .444 lift on both sides
Vortec Heads
Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers
Holley commander 950 700 cfm throttle body that I modified to work with the stock ecm.
Performer RPM intake
And the exhuast off of my current setup

I will also be getting a bigger rear end with 3.73's and I am going to build my suspension. I plan on using the ecm off of a 350 tbi chevy truck because of the fact that my friends 90's chevy truck ran perfect with the GMPP 350 HO with no mods to his cpu at all and know one here is really using it so I will be doing something a little different. Thanks for your input.

If your going to buy new vortec heads I would get the ones that are already machined for high lift cams and have screw in studs. Then I would run 1.6rr's. I would also get a good 3" catback system to replace the straight pipe set up, I think you would gain some torque as well as a more liveable noise level in the passenger compartment. I hope it runs as well in your car as your friends truck but I belive it will onlyrun it's best with some good chip tuning.

Why did you give away your current 350 just to buy another one? The old one was roller too.

Yeah I have been thinking of going with a 3'' cat back, but it was alot cheaper to go with the pipe and glasspack, and it sounds sweet.I was thinking of going with heads and rockers you described, but this setup gave me 320 hp and 400 tq on a desktop dyno, so I want to stick with it, thanks for the input though. Also I didnt give it away I just sold it to my friend for a good price, I have been wanting to buy a rebuilt engine and make this setup out of it, and it was just cheaper than rebuilding my current engine.

for sure. the more and more i get into the computers, and have me and my cascade crew buddies have been doing buildups, the more and more i am willing to push the cam specs further and further. after sitting in a AFR/miniram setup with a 230/238 cam, and having almost no idle, the more and more willing i am to suggest even more and more cam that i would have even a few months ago. i think we are going to find that these computer controled cars, with the right tune can run much bigger cams than we all thought, the key is to keep the lobe seperation above 112, the cam i mentioned is on a 114, and runs 565 lift, and it is so tame and easy to drive, it is unbeleivable.

Oh dont get me wrong, I would love to cam the hell out of this engine, but I have alot of things to take into condsideration. I want this engine to stay mild and to get descent gas mileage. Also I am trying to take this one step at a time because I am on a budget, I dont want to get a huge cam, and then not be able to drive the car becuase I need a bigger stall and a lower rear gear. I would love to do do all of that but I will have to wait, I am in college and running a bussiness that I have to constantly put money into, so I will have to wait until I am out of school and bussiness is stable to do more. After that I plan on building a 400 hp 400 sbc.I appreciate the input guys.

did you read my above post?

i am betting with those low lift number, the duration numbers are equaly as small. trust, me it needs/wants more cam.

post the exact specs of the cam you are looking at.

Yes I read the above post, but all the cam web sites I have looked at say I need a stall and better gears if I go with a higher lift. I know I can go a little higher, but not much(well at least from what comp cams tells me). Here are the specs:
adv duration: 260/260 duration at .050 212/212 lift: .444/.444
lobe seperation: 112 operating range: 1200-5200.
