O2 Bypass

Is there any way to bypass the O2 Sensor and keep the car in open loop? I just put headers on and welded the O2 bung in a spot right next to the crossmemeber (prior to installation and didnt have a chance to test fit)so the sensor wont screw in. The sensor is hanging in through the hole but it reads lean because of the fresh air runnin in through the hole and it sounds like ive got an exhaust leak to the average joe which is embarrassing. Im puttin in a new motor soon anyways and was wondering if it is possible to trick it into staying in open loop so i could put the plug in it and it wouldnt sound like *** because it runs really great until it warms up and goes into closed loop. So any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

The ecm will go open loop when the O2 sensor goes out off set boundries. For your chip boundry is probably 300mv to 650mv. So if air is hitting it, your probably well below 100mv, so ecm is going to be in open loop. Unpluging the sensor (what you should just do) will cause open loop also.

My buddy has an 'H' pipe on his 96 Mustang and what we used to trick the O2 sensors (mustangs have 2) are called 'MIL Eliminators'. Before we put them on (just had the O2's plugged in normally) it slowed the car down due to the retarded timing. (got a 13.9 before, 14.4 after) now that we have those eliminators on, it's hitting below 13.6. I have NO IDEA if/when/how you could get them for your car, but it should be possible. My $.02
