O2 sensor position

Hey, i just put hedders on my car and at the shop they put my O2 sensor in the Y-pipe on the passenger side of the engine. Every once in a while, the ses light comes on for a second, then goes back out. I ran the codes and it threw a 44, which says lean exhaust. Could this have to do with the position of the sensor?
Or maybe its bad?
thanks

Do you only get the ses code 44 when you are driving slow or idling for a while? Your o2 may not be hot enough to keep the ecm in closed loop. Could be time for a three wire heated o2 sensor.

Well, not when im driving slow but at a steady pace and fairly low rpm's.

I would check into a heated o2 if I were you.

if it goes open loop since not hot enough i dont believe that would throw a code. it would just run open loop till it goes back closed AT TEMP. if anything the open loop A/F may be rich as expected. if you do replace the 02 a heated 02 wont hurt. i was getting a lean code since i was lean at city driving. but that was due to engine mods.

There are a number of parameters that must be meet for various codes to set. Some include a timer, ie the ecm expects to go closed loop within X amount of time of a restart, to name but one.

The O2 needs about a 700dF temp to become active. Headers have alot of surface area and radiate alot of heat.

Your cheapest attempt at curing your problem is installing a heated O2 sensor. Thou, there is also the chance that you're actually enough leaner now that you are running too lean.
