416 heads...what to do?

Guys....1st off for you guys who helped me with my vortec head questions a couple of weeks ago thanks...but I am keeping those on a shelf until I get the 350/383 plans all straight.

SO......that leads me to this...I got my hands on a set of 416 heads whcih I want to use on my 305 (l03).....what should I have done on these things before I toss them on??? Suggestions from experience? I am planning on dropping them off to my engine guy to check them over/clean them up..but what other work would you guys suggest having done to them before putting them on.

As for the car...L03, Headers/y-pipe/cat back exahust, L98 cam, intake done (will need to swap to pre'87 for the new heads) and a bunch of other small stuff like underdrive yada yada yada....

Help/Suggestions???

Thanks,
Dave

Port them
No question about it. Dont bother with larger valves, have a 3 angle job done with a back cut and just port the hell out of them
I spent ALOT of time grinding away on mine and I think my times speak for themselves. Anyone can duplicate this, these were the first heads I ever ported.

I see said the blind man......

....so you say just port them...and get a 3 angle job done with a back cut......now that I have been able to see a little bit does someone want to explain to me what that means. I am no rookie but I have never had any real head work done...I want to get an idea as to what this is before I go racing off to my engine guy (well more like my buddy) telling him I want to try this or that.

Any help is appreciated guys....thanks!

Dave

nice, what gasket size is that ?

i only ported mine out to match a 1204, since that is what my intake manifold ports are. so all i had to do to the intake, was clean up the flashing.
