Huuuuuge lag issues

Forewarning: I'm a noob. I was referred here by a friend for my engine problems. I have an 88 Chevy truck with a TBI 305. From my understanding, it's basically the same power-plant as most late 80's f-bodies.

Ok...long of the short...I cannot romp on the gas. If I do, the engine basically stalls. However, if I ease into the gas, it will accelerate. It has been getting progressively worse. My friend thinks it's the timing and/or plugs, but mostly the timing.

As I have little money to spend, and I do mean very little, I need as much info about what is likely to be wrong. Whether I can try and fix it myself, or where I can go, know what I need to know in order to not get ripper off.

Please help. If this shouldn't be posted here, please remove.
Thanks.

first things to check (cheap)

1) fuel filter CHECK THIS FIRST.
2) cap/rotor/plugs/wires (i personaly am thinking this is a fuel issue, but these are, well cheap)
3) fuel pump (this is my guess right here, i am guessing your pump is heading south)

I replaced the fuel pump and filter about 6 or 7 months ago. I could have botched something...though I doubt it...

I'll check the electric components today when I get the chance.

As far as the pump...
Let's just say the environment hates me and I hate dropping and reinstalling my tank. But...if need be...now I know what to do.

i would hook a guage up, and go for a drive, i am willing to bet you that the pressure takes a dive when you nail the go pedal.
