i was just wondering how to beef my 305tbi up.
tuning or new performence parts to add power.
All i have done to the 92 RS is a edelbrock open air cleaner
Jet stage 1 chip,b&m mega shifter, flowmaster cat back exhaust. no headers.2 1/2 inch fiberglass cowl ind. hood. Any hints ideas or proven ways to beef it up will be helpful.
THANKS, EDRcamaro

what are you goals for the car ?
get headers, there is alot to be picked up there.
then i suggest getting into tuning. then suspension work. after that if you want more, you are probably better off going 350. or you are looking at a heads/cam swap.

with your cowl hood, assuming it is functional , i think you are better off with the open cleaner.
tuning, i am talking abotu comptuer tuning, it will cost you about $200 to get the equipment to get started, assuming you have a lap-top, if not figure another $100 to get a used one.
cam/head/intake combo's very alot, depends on budget, goals, driveablity wanted, computer tuning skills, ect.
typicly if you are looking at a heads/cam swap, you can usualy step up to a 350 crate motor for not much more money.

i personaly dont' like 3.73's in our cars, unless you do a cam swap, and can build upper RPM power. but there are people who disagree with me on that.

Yup, I DISAGREE! I have 3.73's and I think they were one of the best things I did. I really enjoyed the new get up and go compared to 2.73's. It really didnt effect my highway speed too bad. I almost put 4.11's but I think that would have been a bad move now. I guess I am just giving it a 9.5 out of 10 on the fun factor!

(BTW -- side note -- is it just me or has there been ALOT of rear gear discusion today?)

Yeah it seems like there's a lot of discussion on rear gear ratios. I tend to agree with Dewey on this, its only logical to put a gear in that will put you in a powerband your cam and heads can actually support. I think 3.73's in a stock LO3 are way overkill. I think many people that put in the 3.73's and say it was a big gain don't have solid timeslips to say it was a gain, it just feels faster which a swap from 2.73's to 3.73's will obviously do but that doesn't mean that 3.73 is the optimal gear to use. I chose 3.42's because I have a 5-speed and am stepping up to a 350 very soon I figure they should use my intended powerband well.

you can check out the ultimate TBI mods in the tech articles section and bump your timing...i hear 6* works for most people but you can test for yourself

Do you have an auto or manual? Remember that I have a manual and am doing this because I'm planning an engine swap. How far do you plan to take this 305, heads/cam swap? Or are you going to step up to a 350 eventually? With gears I would plan for the future.

i have a auto. my car before the jet stage 1 chip ran 16.03 at US 41. i'm looking at try to brake low 15s or high 14s before i decide to step up to a 350. i waz thinking a little bigger cam. what do u think. if i step up to a 350 it won't be for a while. 1 year maybe.
