Lt4 cam and 416 heads on a 305?
Will an LT4 cam work in a 305 without any problems? I was also going to put (race ported)416 heads on with z28 springs....would that work on my 305. I had also planned on getting a chip tuned. Is there anything else I need to put those parts on my engine? I have a L03 motor, will the 416 heads go on with my 87+ intake manifold? I had also looked at the idea of putting a 454 TB on top, but would that be too much for the little 305? Thanks for any help you guys could give me.
Already have a 350 shortblock, but needs to be bored out and rebuilt - maybe next year. I just want to improve on what I have at the moment (305)

The '416' heads will work on your '87+ intake. I believe the 4 bolts holes on the top of the intake have to be enlongated. I have those same heads going on tomorrow. I have someone who has done it before helping me. Or more likely I will be helping him.
As far as the LT4 cam, I am not sure. I think it will work but probably will require a lot of tuning.
From what I have read about the 454 tb unit, it is overkill on a 305.

LT4 cam should be fine for that setup, its still pretty mild. If you're swapping cam and heads though I would say definitely without question you need to make sure you have headers and full exhaust all the way back. Also, don't go to the troulbe of swapping all that and then put your stock intake manifold back on there; it would hurt performance a lot. You have more choices for intake with the older style heads too. Look into a somewhat lower rise single plane manifold, I'd say.

would 1.6 RR's work better with the LT4 cam? What needs to be done to the heads to handle that cam? I thought all I needed to do was have z28 springs put on I think they handle .525+ lift.

to handle more than about .470 lift, you need to have screw in studs installed, the pushrods guide slots elongated (maybe, this is something you just have to check) and the valve guides machined down.

Dewet316 (logged in at a buddies house) -- the LT4 cam is quite a bit more mild than the Hot Cam. there is a big diffrence between the two.
