I don't even have to click on the link because I know what will come up. Don't waste your money. The only real way to get a custom chip is to do it yourself. Those type of "off the shelf" chips don't change much at all and are so close to the stock bin. Not worth it at all.

 

I have a stage one chip from the same guy. I am satisfied with it. I have also got a stage 2 chip from him, i tried running it before i had my hedders and it was too agressive. I wouldnt use stage 2 if you got your exhaust completely done.

 

how would i even attempt to make my own chip?

 

Theres a whole other board for that. If you go to the tech articles section there is a good introduction to what is involved. If you want to burn you're own start doing a lot of reading.

 

I have heard very good things about tbichips.com. I'm planning on having him burn me a chip once i get my new intake if i cant dig up the money to get into it myself.

btw, there was a thread about tbichips.com on here not to long ago, do a search for "tbichips.com" and username "ssxmac" it should turn up.

 

i dont see how a chip can be burned unless you send to him results of data logging as well as specs of engine. it takes about 60 days to get the knowledge of datalogging and burning. anyway did for me, invaluable if you change and mods on engine.

 

I believe he will take the info you collect from datalogging and use it to help him burn. I know you cant get near the same results as burning your own over the course of several months, but if you dont have the time or money, he definitly has the best prices i've seen yet, and sounds like his would be better than the big companies.

http://www.tbichips.com is a good place to get chips for 3ed gens, one of if not the best for "mail order" chips cause you can datalog them and get them updated( Jet, Superchips & hypertech would be the worst) of course burning your own chip would be better but if you can't they would be who to go with.
Also check out http://www.pcmforless.com , there a little higher though and not really better for 3ed gens. I like them best for 4th gens.

 

I have that same chip in my car now. I can't complain about it at all...the reason why I went with the stage 2 is because I plan on going father than my current mods...for example - I plan on adding some decent flowing headers, and a catback. Then a hotter ingition to keep the spark where it counts etc etc.....It depends on what you want to do with your car....if you want a chip that will give you noticeable performance, but don't want to go through with doing other mods, stage 1 would be "my" choice if that was the case. I agree that the chip is a little too agressive for a stock vehicle - but I haven't noticed any harm that it's causing. I always run at least 91 octane to help the detention too. Other thing that he is offering is the chip holder its self...I would have bought one of those for the extra $10 if he had them available at the time....simply because I ruined my stock chip getting it out of the holder. But tbichips.com is a great company at a very reasonable price - sometimes burning chips yourself is not the way some of us can go....

 

I am glad you had good results but wait unitl you do your heads and cam. I gaurantee you that off the shelf chip won't be woth diddly then. Sure you can send people your data log info but they can't really dial in your set-up. They can only get close.
