thats the posi rear i finially found but ive only got a day to bid and i have a quick question about it.

what does that mean? and will it still work in my car?
and has anyone ever shipped something that weighs 300lbs accross country? man shipping will prolly be more than the rear!

shipping would be a lot. i would think it wouldnt be worth it but i could be wrong

It doesnt have the 'grenade' lock as everyone likes to call the gm gov-lock or whatever its called carrier. That much I can see from the pic. Other then that, its got the standard delco disc brakes and a decent gearset. Like said above, its alot to have it shipped, and you dont know what condition its in. Its probably not worth it by the time its shipped, and *** only knows what condition its in or if the posi still works.

I dont know about the 300 lbs weight he has listed there. I can lift and maneuver them w/o too much trouble by hand so I dont think it weighs that much but it is akward. If you want to get some idea of the cost call a carrier nearby and give them the dimensions of a 10 bolt rear (dont know off the top of my head) with, say a weight of 200-250 lbs if you want to get an idea of shipping
so what is that active control thing then?
will it still work just like a normal posi?
If it will i think i'll be placing a bid soon, my 2.73 peg leg is like the worst rear end ever to make it into a third gen. (unless you like expressways and gas milage) I figure if i can have this thing at my door for under $300 ive done well.
think shipping would be over $100? i'll be checking with a couple carriers tomorrow. i've got till 11:00pm EST.

I dont ahve any experience with the eaton ones. I would assume it has disc clutches in it instead of the usual clutch cones. Works just like any other posi unit. Locks when there is wheel slip. As far as the disc goes, the brake line hooks up the same way that the drum does but i think youll need e-brake cables and possibly another proportioning valve, depending on how the discs behave. I know I need one, and the 'FY' master cylinder so my brake pedal doesnt go half way down to the floor before the brakes work. You wont have to worry about the master cyl. with yours but the pbrs I ahve take alot of fluid to actuate.

I bet money it's under 100 lbs. and UPS ships up to 150 lb items.

A rear is more then 100 lbs. With the rotors its probably around 210 or so.

That rear has the older style 10.5" rotors. Alot of people have had problems with this brake setup. The calipers are known to stick. If it is a 10 bolt I would hold out. But if for some reason it turns out to be a aussie 9 bolt that might be worth it. The 9 bolts had a disk style possi.
well i just checked on some shipping prices and seeing as the rear is in CA, and i live in MI, shipping would be upwards of around $500. Obviousally out of my price range. So i wont be bidding on this one.
On a side note, do you think 3.23 or 3.42 would be enough gear for a 200-250 hp set up? Just asking because i see alot more of those online.

i think 3.42's are a great gear set, but it will depend on what cam you are running for the power, chances are at 200-250 hp you will be golden with 3.42's, since you wont be using a very extreme cam.Originally posted by ssxmac
