burning a TBI chip with no EGR

mmk, i want to put a single plane intake on my L03.. im mostly buying the intake for another motor that will be going into the car in a couple months, but right now, the L03 is getting a vac leak when its cold.... a lil spray showed it was the intake gasket.

rather then put the stock intake back on, i want to stick this single plane on there. but it has no EGR or heat crossover.

i know the crossover is no big deal, but im going to have to remove the EGR from the chip... how can i do this?

now i do have a friend with a prom burner, so i could mail him some proms and have him burn me some chips.... but i want to be absolutly POSITIVE that everything will work with my setup... ideally id like to have a exact image of my car as it sits now, with only the EGR removed ...

  • Is there a EGR delete PROM image for a 1991 camaro L03 auto trans that someone can share?
  • how can i get my stock image off of my ECM?
  • what do i need to put it together? im assuming i'll need a PROM adapter (like craigs) or is that just a optional thing?
  • anything im forgetting?

edit:
to stay on topic, i took out where i mentioned mods im not really intrested in.

disabling is pretty easy, i am not at a PC with any tuning stuff on it (if only i could tune at work!) but you should be able to just raise the peramiters to their max, or zero out the EGR related constants.

imho the moates adaptor with a ZIF is the only way to go. using IC pullers over and over and over while you tune, sucks.

You can set the mph that it will come on. Most set it to 200 or some speed they will never see.

if the adapter was the same between the TBI and the 730 im going to be using, id get one without skipping a beat.

but im not out to mod or tune my l03, i have a blown 400SBC im eventually going to be doing that with.

right now, i want to fix my intake leak, and possibly use this intake. from what i understand, the EGR is just one flag (switch) and its just a simple matter of flicking that one bit... i dont even have to mess with the constants..

now can i use a IC puller and just do it that way? im only going to be doing this once. i just want to get this EGR taken care of so i can swap intakes and drive the car.

i have yet to drop the ECM down and look at it.. like i said, i had no intentions of modding the TBI ECM... that is, until this morning when the intake gasket finally let go... it wasnt until i got to work that i remembered that this intake has no EGR, so im going to have to mod the chip..

can i directly pull out whats in there now? is it just a PROM in there from GM?

my friend with the chip burning tools is in texas... so im going to have to mail him the stuff and have him mail it back.. id prefer minimal downtime...

also while im doing this, im swapping to a manual trans in the very near future. do i NEED to swap bins to a manual car or not?

if so, does anyone have stock manual trans files for a 91 TBI camaro?

also, just to double check somthing..

if i use a BIN found online, it wont disable my VATS right?
what do i have to check in TunerPro so that im positive it will NOT disable VATS?
and to triple check my knowlage... VATS is run by a seprate box under the dash, and when it gets the proper VATS reistance, it sends a signal to the ecm and the ecm recieves it and lets the car run.. right?
so even with a diff chip, my VATS key will remain correct right?

i just want to be positive and not have any suprises.

btw, can someone tell me what the highway min mph threshold is?

heres a pic with everything i THINK is relevent.... hopefully someone can confirm.

edit: excuse the low quality grayscale of the pic... i had to do that to make it small enough to upload.... you still should be able to read it though

the bin you posted looks to have EGR, Hi-Way mode, and the speed limiter all disabled. i really haven't looked into vats that much to tell you if it shut off or no, but it does have a vats freq. set, so it might still be functional.

isnt highway mode where it makes the car run a lil leaner to save gas?

if so, then i REALLY REALLY want that... i do alot of long distance hwy driving, and im pretty sure my stock ECM has it on... id like to keep that feature....

what should it be set to? if i put in somthing like 45mph, will it kick in at a crusing speed of 45+??

ok, well i think i know what i have to do now...

now, i just have to get my stock BIN to begin with..

does anyone have a stock 91 camaro l03 auto BIN i can use? my email is MrDude_1@excite.com (theres a _ between dude and 1, just like my username)

or you can add .bmp to the end of file name, and upload it here....

i have been searching all day (from 8am till 1pm right now) and have yet to come across one... so anyhelp would be great.
im new to this, so if you can even give me the name of the 91 l03 camaro auto bin, that would be great.... all these AUXYLILUIHPSDA names still look like gibberish to me

thanks!

i went on craigs site and found one here: http://www.moates.net/fileman/index....ock%20Binaries

as a kind of followup question... where do you go to find out what a name is?? is there a lookup page, cross ref table or somthing?

im always kinda intrested in knowing for myself so that im not dependant upon others every time i need to know what a file is.

and yes, theres a lil sticker that says ANTT on it.

quick question.. i didnt touch it but that plastic "cage" over the chip... that just prys out right?
can i jsut carefully pry out that chip and replace it with my new one? or is it soldered on there?

and THANKS for the bin. every bin ive found so far has had some mod to it.... i needed a dead stock one.. i want to retain my VATS, hwy mode, and everything else thats stock.

you cant see it because of the flash on the camera, but that silver sticker says ANTT right on it.

You can just pull it out but be careful with the pins. If you wanted to, you could just send this guy that's going to burn it for you, a 2732a prom chip and a copy of the binary you want on there. They are very cheap and then you don't have to go without a chip in your car at all until the new one gets there.

actauly it is pretty hard to damage the pins pulling it out. that is what the plastic cage is for. DO NOT try to get the chip out of the cage. (ask me how i know)

I broke one of the prongs off my stock thing trying to get it out because Im evidently retarded. Just push on the outside of the plastic inward a little bit to bend the pins in, then pull just the plastic from the bottom out tward your body. It'll pop out on one side and you're golden.

or spend $3 at radio shack, and get a IC puller, then you know it is coming out straight

radioshack is overpriced...

theres a radio supply electronics shop i goto for misc electrical things... cheaper then radioshack... i'll pick a puller up there.

if i just say i need a 2732a prom chip will they know what im talking about, or is there anything else i need to know?

and just to double check, this VATS thing is in the VATS module, not in the ECM right?

im just worried it wont start because of vats with this BIN chuck gave me.. (thanks again chuck)

this is the ANTT bin posted above..

also there is the bin im having someone burn. the only things changed is the EGR turn on temps, and the speed limiter.

there is also the ECU file i used. it was made by another board member on here.
