Aluminum zz4 Heads going on soon..
Ok guys I got aluminum zz4 heads going on very, very soon. I was wondering if i should change cams again also. Right now im using the Powermax 2031 specs are:
208/214 .438/.452 @ 112lsa
or should i put in the lt1 cam which a friend gave to me, would i see any gain from that, or should i put in the lt4 hot cam
specs for the lt4hotcam:
218/228 .492/.492 @ 112lsa.
I dont think i need to list the specs for the lt1 cam its pretty common. Let me know guys Im doing this swap within 3weeks. need to get everything together.

What exactly are your plans for this engine and what other mods do you have. As I see it the first cam will give you decent low end and good mid range power probably up to 5500 rpm. It looks to be a tad bigger than a L98 cam. The hot cam will be just that in a 305, but the LT1 cam may give you the best off both worlds in that it would probably make a flater power band all the way across the rpm scale. Someone with a little more experiance is sure to post some more info and insight than I have shead so here we go to the top /\ .

well its tbi right now, im thinking of keeping it tbi if i can find them right turner for it... dont have time to learn prom. work/school takes up my entire time... Im going with a victor jr manifold, port matched 1206 zz4 heads, hedman longtubes, all on my lil 305. why, well why not go wild with it. its all interchangible to a 350. thats why im leaning more to the lt4 hotcam, or just the lt4 cam that came in the 96 revs the specs for that are:
203/210 .476/.480 115lsa...
I really have my heart set on the hotcam I wouldnt be using the 1.6 rr's because that would bring the lift to .525 which my springs are way capable of handling, just the extra velocity will boge down the motor..

If you won't tune your own chips you'll have to find a good dyno-tuner I think with that hot cam. If are positive you know of someone that can work on it to tune it in good that you trust with it, I would go with the Hot cam. I think if you can get a competent tuner on it for the Prom, I'd run a nice big cam, I like the idea of throwing a lot of cam at these engines, I think with proper tuning the TBI can manage it well.

the powermax cam is a good cam no doubt, except Im going for thing completely wild for a 305, and on the other hand im making sure I can use all these parts for a mild 350-383... If your looking for heads, look into 416s, or 601s. Members have reported great out comes using these heads... My powermax cam will probably be up for sale soon... The lt1 cam is a nice cam also, the lt4 standard cam is the same at the lt1 just a little more lift.

Well the powermax cam you are using right now is very similar to the LT1 cam. I wouldn't waste my time with an LT1 cam that has about the same specs. You are going to need a lot of fuel and and lots of air and tuning to get your new combo to run anywhere near where you want to. The hotcam is huge for a 305 and will require you to upgrade to a 2" TBI and high pressure fuel pump. I would look at the plain old LT4 cam. It has more aggressive specs than the LT1 yet is a bit more tame than the hotcam. I like the idea of the heads a lot. Do they have 58cc chambers, I cannot remember off hand.

Yep heads are 58cc 1.94/1.5 valves... and there port matched to my victor jr intake im using 1206 gasket wooooh thats big... 2in bore tbi unit wouldnt be a problem. im gonna try to use the hot cam with tbi, if i cannot get it where it should be then ill throw a carb on it... thats the beauty of tbi u can goto a simple setup so easily

you guys are thinking of the victor intake, i have the victor jr intake, it will fit under the stock hood... I dont think i would be hurting myself that bad with that intake. yes it is single plain. im prob going to lose a bit of lowend, but ohwell take the good with the bad. Im going to try this combo with carb first then go back to tbi. i want to send out my 670tbi unit to get it bored and machined to 2.2in bores and plates should be interesting.

Well a 52mm blade is about 2.047" in diameter while a 58mm is 2.283" in diameter. I have heard of stock TBI units getting bores out and using stock LT1 blades (48mm or 1.889"). That is slightly bigger than stock but not the desired 2".

i've talked to two different machinists who specialize in boring tbi throttle bodies. both say they've tried it on the 670, but it can't be done. walls are too thin.
