So much for my dream...

Well, no TBI 406 for me so it's back to modding the 305.

This is what I'm thinking.
LT1 cam (94 TA)
Vortec heads
performer rpm intake
hedman tork-step headers
transgo shift kit
some chip tuning by craig moates
and the 3.42's and limited slip i have

I know it's no 406, but do you think thats a good combo?

Well it is right on par with every other modded L03 out there. Do those headers come with a y-pipe? Also are you going to mill those heads down some? Or have them machined so that you can use some 1.6 rockers with that cam? You should also look at upgrading your fuel system and possibly a larger TBI unit.

No y-pipe with the headers ($200, what do you expect)
get the heads milled to 58cc
and from what I understand, the stock TB should be plenty capable of supporting these mods....but I'm just going by what I've read.

ShiftyCapone: Why must the heads be machined for use with 1.6 rockers?

nebu,

usualy the machining is for the lift, and studs, you machine it for screw in studs, and also have the valves guides cut down for clearance. most people also check the pushrod guide slots (although not used, you need to check this) and clearance those further if needed.

Dewey is right. But for easy description the stock heads can only take so much lift in their stock casting. Machinging them to accept higher lift cams is a must. 1.6 rockers with an LT1 puts the stock heads near trouble.
