Please help, engine fan...

I bought my RS at the end of last year and have yet to put it on the road (just meaning registering the car). Anyway, I noticed that the engine fan comes on immediately as soon as the the key is turned and continues to run all the time. Even when the key is just turned to the "on" position without the engine running the fan comes on. I know this is not normal...I also know that the car is stock and has no aftermarket PROM in it. What do you guys think?

It could be one of 2 things...

#1 Someone could have wired it to the ignition so that it came on with the key.

#2 The ALDL connector has been jumped putting it in field service mode and when this happens the fan automatically comes on with the key.

You have a broken coolant fan switch. When it fails its default is to turn the fan on all the time. The switch is under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side just behind the dip stick.

10 bucks total maybe. Depending on how well you control the coolant draining process.
