Try going the other way with the fp. High combustion temps are the cause of HC (running lean raises the temp). That's why we've got EGR, to lower the temp.

Running lean is incomplete combustion.

Whoops. I was wrong about combustion temps and hydrocarbons. It's incomplete combustion that produces hydrocarbons. High combustion temperatures that produce NOx. Here's a link I found : http://www.autosite.com/garage/repairqa/ques078.asp

the computer WILL correct for you turning down the pressure.

take the computer out of closed loop. and then you can lean it down. not other way.

running hot and lean = high NOx and low HC's, until you get too lean, then high HC's and high NOx. just to clarify.

One warning about open loop, not all the emmisions equipment is fully functional untill the car is in closed loop. If you havnt already done so, roll back the fuel pressure to stock and check with winaldl that the blms are where their supposed to be. Also make sure you have a new A/C Delco O2, preferably heated for the headers. From what I hear, the O2 doesnt do much unless its up to around 600 deg F. After that, back the fuel pressure down a tad (if youll be doing open loop), throw some denat. alcohol in with the gas and see if it passes.

I would put the stock regularot back on and make sure your car is in a good state of tune. You should pass with ease with the mods you have.

Got to walmart and get 5 bottles of heet brand gasline antifreeze and put them in the tank with some 93 octane. Retard your timing back to stock and make sure the car is over 200 degrees for the test. I just passed yesterday doing this.

The blms should center around 128. On mine, theyre usually mostly within +/- 2 or 3 of 128. Just look at the average blms in winaldl and make sure theyre at least within spitting distance of 128. If you havnt replaced the O2 or you still have a stock one a new O2 will definatly help. Either online or at an autoparts store get a new A/C delco one for your application. Even the standard one wire will probably work fine, although with headers the O2 is farther away from the exaust ports then with manifolds so itll be cooler.

Why a Delco O2 Sensor?
Is Delco absolutly neccessary for our proper ECM readings?

I just picked up a Bosch Premium for roughly the same price as the Delco.
SHould I return it and why?
Any bad experiences before I throw the Bosch in and tear up my knuckles?
I too must pass IL epa before Friday or loose registration and license.

The delco ones are more accurate and the bosch ones tend to make your run rich at idle. My can runs a little rich with my bosch 02. I would return it and go with the Delco unit.

I don't know anything about them. You can't go wrong with Delco replacement parts.

B/W was bought out by Tremmec. IIRC, tremmec turned around and licensed the B/W brand name to Echlin. So, the B/W name really doesnt imply much these days.
