TBI Tips

Coming up on a build for a gentleman that wants a 350 TBI. He wants to make sure everything works properly, and wants to keep the heads-(882) he has, and no computer chips. I have spec'ed a Comp Cams 252AH-12- 206*/212* @.050----.425/.440 lift---112*. Right now he wants to keep the stock TB. Would the Edelbrock intake work okay, or should I lean toward a carb intake with an adapter? This engine is going in a heavy vehicle. The fuel pump, and exhaust will get attention as well. Is there maybe a better cam that will run well within the perameters of the stock computer program? I'm trying to talk him into getting a chip of some sort from TBIChips. He is asking for 300hp at the engine. What does everyone think of this combination?

Thanks,

I think if he wants 300hp without a chip he needs a good smack in the head...

Stock computers that bad, huh? Okay, would a chip from TBIchips.com be suggested? I dont know to much on computer programing, so a pre-burnt chip is the only way I can go. Would a Stage 2 be okay with the proposed combo?

Stay away from any stage 1 or 2 chip. They are not much better than stock and just add a little more timing up top. TO get the motor dialed in you will have to datalog once it is up and running and send him your data. He will take that data and help burn a chip that meets the parameters that the new motor needs. This is still a shot in the dark and will only be close to what is necessary to get everything out of that motor. You can reuse the stock injectors but I would go with a high volume pump. You may have problmes getting 300hp out of the stock TBI unit. I would shoot for a tuned 250 with 400 lb ft. That would be a nice motor and be perfect for a heavy vehicle.

Okay. Is it possible to get approx. 250/400 w/o a chip? I guess I'm asking what the limits are of the stock program. From what I have gathered, its pretty much topped out in stock form.

Thanks,

You got it. The key to modding these cars lies in the chip. The stock one is so bad and can barely support the set-up from the factory. There are some guys that have bone stock cars and have taken their cars and have picked up over a half second in the quarter by burning their own chip.
