Knocking?
Hello I seem to have a problem I have noticed that in the past few days to me it seems that my valves are knocking the make a very horrible rattling sound when I am accelerating from a stop. It is a 1992 Camaro RS with thw LO3. What should I do?

Well knock is not your valves ratteling. I would start by checking your timing. If you are to advanced you can get some knock. Also a failing EGR or incomplete ignition can cause knock. What are your water temps?
Not always, but sometimes a rattling sound can be a leak at the exhaust manifold. They don't have gaskets, so one loose or missing bolt can make a tick tick tick sound, if that's what you're hearing.

Sure its not injector noise either? A lot of people mistake the ticking that our injectors make to be something bad.

When I have my hood open and my car is idiling and I stand over it I do not hear a ticking noise or even knock, could it be like in the drivetrain or?
Thanks Again,

I am having the same problem, but it's only at temps above N.O.T.(normal operating temp.)
I have retarded base timing to -2* before I retarded it, I had it at +1* to +2* and was getting almost 100 ping counts just accelerating 0-40 since, I have retarded the timing down to the -2* and it is fine until the motor is above normal temps. I know the difference between ping and rod/lifter/rocker/etc. knocking.
I have ran SeaFoam through it thinking that might help some carbon in the cylinders, but that doesn't seem to do anything, besided make smoke.
I modified the exhaust, and now the EGR no longer works. I don't know if I need more back pressure, or what, but it will throw a code 95% of the time I drive over 55mph.
I'd like to get this figured out, because I liked the 2nd gear scratches I was getting with the timing advanced 2*.
This is a completely stock motor besides the ehxhaust and open element. I can't believe the car is running lean, but the way my gas is used, I'm thinking it's running rich.
As soon as I find time, I'm going to run it on the laptop and see what sort of readings I am getting.
Anyone have any thoughts, or need any more info as to the situation? I'm sure this is pretty much the same problem that BADASS92 is having.

other then telling you to check your timing (correctly with the plug disconnected, it should be 0*) theres not much we can tell you online.
i suggest you take it to someone who can look it over.. if it is a audible knock, you could severely damage the motor if you continue driving it.

8 times out of 10 an engine will not knock at idle with a spun bearing it depends on how bad its spun. alls the knock is when its spun is the piston hittin the bottom of the head
a car with a spun bearing will start to knock at about 1500-2000 and get worse and louder as more rpms are given
when the old 305 in my car spun a bear it did not knock at idle it did exactly what i described
when the 307 in my oldsmobile spun a bearing it did the exact same thing. Then i took the motor out and dropped in a nice little 350
and again i had a 2.8 V6 Camaro that spun a bearing and it did the exact
KEEP IN MIND a car with a spun bearing will still hold oil pressure usually
