Cant Get Timing or osmethign Right
Cant Get Timing or osmethign Right
ok...my timing was a little bit ugly at higher/max RPMs....I pull out the timing gun, disconnect timing tab, hook up gun...start engine and work on setting the timing ge tit to where it should be....kill engine....disconnect timing gun, reconnect tab....start engine and it runs rough as all hell....and there is a good bit of smoke comming outta the pipes and my SES Light is on and Staying on....
i kept workign on the timing for about an hour...it would run fine, until i kill it and try to start....and it will bog way way way down to where it will almost cut off...then go back up to 1k rpms and stay there but drive like *** and when I put it in 1st (automatic tranny) the thing all but cuts off.....
anyone have any ideas on what this problem might be? I would appriciate it....also if i need to give mroe information I can...jsut not sure if i am leaving out an important detail or not...
thanks,
Jared

By timing tab you mean ESC right? You can just unplug it with the car running and adjust the timing from there. Adjust it while the car is ideling and do not rev it to set-it. What are you setting it at?
umm its the fuse that is up near the hood hinge...dont really rmeemer too well waht its called....
and yea...no reving or anyhting of the sort...its at idle...sounds really good at idle...and i have tried setting it at 8 and at 6....and neither of the 2 work...then i got frusterated and tried every single notch on the tab and none of them keep it running well either....
right now it is set about as good as any that i have tried but there is one hell of a sparkknock once i hit the gas...and when i first crank it if i dont wait for it to bog down to abotu 200-300rpms and then come back up to about 900ish before hitting the gas it shuts off.....this is set inbeteen the actual point of the 6 and 8 deg marks....

that is where it is set with the timing gun set at 0degrees....

Then I'd make sure that after you're setting the timing at the distributor that the hold-down bolt is locking down good. Make sure its staying tight and not moving the distributor out of whack when you fire it up again.
