No, but it can mess up the geometry of the linkages, namely the tv cable. Even very small changes can have profound effects on how the transmission shifts and operates.

i had a 1/2" plastic spacer that worked great, but i no longer need it because i am now using an Edelbrock TBI intake. I have heard that people usually have trouble with 1" spacers.

Hey welcome abaord. Check out the "new to TBI" thread up top. It talks about spacers. You can run a 1" spacer but it will require some fab work to your fuel lines and throttle brackets. It is a lot of work for zero to little gain in power.
