I think it's a good build, but you are probably going to need better heads. I know some people will tell you to get a bigger cam, but I believe that for a daily driver, the key is better heads. Big cams tend to kill drivabilty.

yea i hear ya on the heads... origian plans was to build a 305 with the lt1 cam, intake, blah blah blah.. and i was going to get the world products sr torquer heads but couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a set of ehads for a 305 so i was told the ported 305 tpi heads were also good.. so i was going to get them ported and polished and then when i called up about them it would be 550 so like again i couldn't see myself spending that much on just heads for a 305. but as i got closer to getting the 305 out i noticed a very large crack in the block. so then i find the 350.. used, seized, cylinder messed up.. so i had to bore it, had to get new crank, had to do everything i did on it.. and the bill came out to 1100 and i just didn't want to spend another 500-800 on heads so i hope my car turns out to be some what quick. i'd be very please with low mid 14's. i don't want a race car but i do want something that will go when i want it to.

Here, go to this site. Sometimes under the "DEALS" section, they have some 350 heads (both Iron and Aluminum) that they sell for a pretty good price.

EBay is also a good place as you know.

It sounds like you will have high compression engine hat won't be able to use the cam to its fullest. Due to the small valves it should have good low to mid range power but run out of air probably around 4500rpm. If you had to buy the 305tpi heads before you had them ported why didn't you just get a set of 350tpi heads and have them ported for the same amount of cash?

Just a thought, but it would have been a good idea to use the valves out of the 350tbi heads in the 305tpi heads. Then the extra compression would have worked for you all the way thru the rpm range of the LT1 cam.

i bought the 305 tpi heads before i got the 350 and before i knew i was going to get a 350... i didn't know you could do that with the valves, but it's alittle too late now cause the motor is done and ready to go in. monday i will be starting to put it in. it has taken me alittle bit because i only get 1 day a week to work on it and besides that, i'm pretty new to working on cars i'm turning 19 may 7th and hope to have my car back by then. i got the 305 out in like 3 1/2 hours so i'm hoping i can get the motor back in within just monday.
