This is how your car runs with the stock tune and LT1 cam

I have yet to start my car since I put the cam in this past december (B body LT1 version). I roller her out of the garage today and fired her up. She started right up and the timing was only off by 4* or so. I had to set the base at nothing less than 8* or she would start to stall. The car never stalled but ran really rough below 1500 rpm. She was bloody rich and smoked a little (hasn't ran in year) but other than that the car would hold a steady idle at 600. I bet if I backed the fuel pressure down a bit and re-adjusted the valves I could smooth her out a bit. Anyways, the point is this. I wanted all of those who are considering this swap to know how your car will behave with the stock tune. Without chip work you cannot expect your car to run very well. Other mods are listed in sig.

Hey glad to hear it up and running. Sounds like you will be in my boat for a while...needing lots of tuning.

I should have another chip coming any day now. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyhow, congrats on the car!!

yea it needs tuning in the worst way. It sounds great and smooth at around 2k but enything below that is super choppy. I don't have any insurance on it and the tags expired so I couldn't exactly take it around the block. In a few months she should be out on the road.

Shifty, you mentioned that you could turn the fuel down and smooth it out alittle. It will need about 14.5 -15 PSI fuel pressure for WOT (with stock LO3 injectors). A few years ago I was running a LT1 cam with headders and Edlebrock TBI manifold. At the time I wasn't into chip tunning so I stuck GM VacAFPR on with a TDS spring and got it to run pretty fair that way. Chip tunning is the best. That way you can adjust your spark timming also.

Well I mentioned that because I was so rich. You can really play with the stock tune with an adjustable regulator and timing adjustments. I am really rich at idle on purpose but now i can lean her out to see if I can smooth things out. I know my attmepts will only go so far (with the stock tune) but it is always fun to play.

It'll get a good tune, dont you worry. I know the guy who's gonna do it though, I hear he's a real a-hole.
