when i swapped in new cam #1 i too received a lean code on daily driving. i was lean. i first tried a vafpr but continued lean at cruise rpms. i ended up swapping in larger injectors. that required i learn to burn chips.

if you swap in larger injs you will go from too lean to too rich. that requires a chip tuned for the added fuel. i dont think you can swap in larger and be close enough on tune. i am assuming you are lean due to lack of fueling? the vafpr is used by some but that is primarily WOT added fueling. you could get the FP up a bit higher and see how it runs with stock injectors. i assume you have a fuel gauge.

Your Code 44 might be due to a bad O2 sensor. The factory sensors are known to be sensitive to the "fumes" of RTV/Gasket sealers. Of course, you might really be lean, too... Can you connect a scan tool to the ECM to see what the sensor is reporting?

I have to ask the obvious question. But, you did remember to reconnect the EST connector after setting the initial timing on your motor, right? I know I've gotten in a hurry and forgotten to reconnect the line before.

Good luck!

What is your base timing set at? Once you have that dialed in you are going to need chip work. This is somthing that takes time and patience but is far more accurate than any "mail order" chip.

i think a datatlog will give you some valuable info. otherwise you can guess as to what it needs. a wideband would also be helpful. but that is another story. all this assumes no mechanical issues.

You can check the pick up coil with a volt meter. I believe it should be between 500 and 1500 volts. If not it is fried. Did you put some dialectic greese under the module when you replaced it?

If you do not use the greese you won't have a good contact. If the pickup coil is bad you will have all kinds of wierd ignition related problems. I know that is vague, but a simple check will tell you if it is bad or not.

You will have intermitend start-up problems as well at stuttering, stalling, and a few other common iognition reladted woes. You can check it with a volt meter. Any service manual for our cars will tell you how. I believe the voltage needs to be in the 500 to 1500 range. If it is not, than corrosion is probably the culprit.
