TBi performance ??'s
I'm looking for a cheap 3rd gen with a V8 and t-tops. I'd prefer a 5spd, but as long as it has the first 2 qualifications, I'll be AOK.
1) GEAR SWAP: Now I understand the Tbi's had the aenemic 2.73 gears. This just won't do for long. How much is a rear end swap? I don't need a rear disc conversion, just something that will launch me harder. Is 3.73 the best choice?
2) HEADERS: What are some nice cheap headers that will give me some gains? I'd like to swap to a TPI system one day, but for the time being I'd like headers for the throaty V8 roar. Will TBi headers need to be modified, or will it work fine?
3) LT1 CAM: How much HP/TQ does it yeild with better intake/exhaust?
Thanks!

BigWhiteGTP,
3rd Gen TBI Camaro/Firebirds came with 2.73 (Auto) and 3.08 (Manual). For gear swaps, I believe the consensus with 305 TBI is no more than 3.42. As far as headers go, you have a wide range of choices. Go to the "Exhaust" forum and use the "SEARCH" feature for headers. You will get all the answers you need. Good Luck!

Hey man, I think I've seen you at the track before back when you had the GTP. I've pretty much got the combo you're looking at. Gears: I just swapped a complete rear end in from a 95 Trans Am, $375 = 3.42 posi, disc rear, I gained .3 from that alone
LT1 Cam: Yeah it's nice, but you need to tune it, definitely start chip tuning before you get a cam in there
Headers: Mine aren't in yet, but hopefully I'll be able to tell you next weekend
Feel free to e-mail me or whatever with any questions
Tony
