Cold Starting....
Is it really necessary for the car to idle high for atleast 5 min when its cold? is there anyway to eliminate cold starting?i have noticed on other throttle body injected vehicles, that when they start up cold, it will idle up for about 4 seconds, then come right down to normal idle RPM's.... all info is appreciated

Its not really necessary, but its entirely controlled by the ecm so unless you can edit the calibration itll be stuck like that.

Sure. Visit the DIY-Prom board. Searching should bring up some threads on what you need to edit. IIRC theres at least a few TBI specific threads there. Something like 'cold start' should bring them up.

Typing in keywords brings up ALOT of threads so Ill say a few things about it.
One reason that the car idles so high is that there are so many IAC counts spec'd at low temps. The ecm limits the idle speed, and thus the IAC counts so the effect is that the motor gets stuck at its max idle speed untill the IAC counts get low enough to alow the ide speed to come down. The solution is to reduce the IAC counts at low temps and balance the IAC park position to get it to idle where you want it when cold.
I was having similar problems as well as problems with fuel and a timing mark that was WAY retarded with the motor at TDC that caused starting issues
The right timing mark peeled off and I used the one that was off by about 18° ATDC so I had 26° degrees of advance while cranking and 45-50° as soon as the motor caught. Hopefully now that I fixed it Ill get better starts.
