help with engine mis
ive got a 89 formula with a 305tbi(toilet bowel injection) that just failed NY emissions. car ran fine about a month ago. now whenever i give it about half throttle at 2500rpm or above just about nothing happens it doesnt accelerate and doesnt run on all cylinders. the mechanic who did the emissions told me the car needed a tune up and a knock sensor. i did plugs wires cap rotor and the knock sensor and its still doing this. somebody please help because im stumped.

I guess I should have said something about that. See it a lot on the carb forum with "quadrabog", too.
Try to overlook and forgive, and get him back from the dark side, if you could.

Check the spray pattern on your injectors. They should be a nice solid cone shape. How many miles are on it? Might want to consider rebuilding the TBI unit, the rebuild sets are like 30 bucks for all new gaskets and filters and everything.

should also check your fuel pressure and see what it reads when when the pump is primed but the engine is started.. its possible you fuel pump died as well.

Sounds to me like a clogged catalytic converter. Try removing the oxygen sensor and start it up for a very short time. Without the oxygen sensor installed, if the catalytic converter is clogged up, the exhaust gasses will have somwhere to escape and the car should run a little better. Obviously, it would be better to remove the catalytic converter to try it out, but just removing the oxygen sensor is a whole lot easier and quicker.

I agree that it is a fuel problem. Check your feed line pressure. You pump may be dying and only suppling enough fuel to make your car run how you describe. Check the injectors as mentioned above for a steady cone shape flow. Even still you should check the feed line pressure because looks are decieving. 4psi will still make a cone shape but will not be nearly enough fuel for the car to run.
