Timing is dead on, runs like crap.. IAC?
Timing is dead on, runs like crap.. IAC?
OK,
I swapped the L03 for a pre-86 350 in my 89 rs and swapped over all the TBI stuff, changed the knock sensor and computer to 350 stuff (still waiting on my injectors) and set the timing with the esc wire unplugged. The timing is dead on, but the motor would hardly idle and struggled to stay running. Shouldnt it idle and run semi-correctly even with the wire unplugged? Would the IAC still have anything to do with that even though i have the esc wire unplugged?
When i plugged the wire back in, it started to "hunt" for idle between 1500 and 500 rpm, and would almost die. I looked at what the timing was doing with my light, and it was retarding the timing way up the balancer, at about the 12 o clock position (my pointer is at the normal 2 o clock) when facing the motor. Is this normal?
I pulled the iac and cant move it at all....is it supposed to move freely?
If its not the iac, could it be clogged injectors? I also noticed that when i drove it down the road, it stumbles at part throttle and kind of "backfires", but when i romp on it it clears up and goes.
Any suggestions?

My guess is, that this is all in the chip.
you are using the 305 injectors, with a 350 chip, the injector constant is way off. What you really need to do, is get everything setup properly. The major retard you are seeing, could be the knock sensor, actualy pulling out that much timing. Do you have anyway to datalog? seeing what the sensors see, may really shed some light on things, but my guess is, that you have a grossly mismatched engine/computer/injection system.

Well, i kind of thought that might be it, but i wasnt sure. I dont have any way to datalog. I think i will clean the iac and re-install the 305 computer for now and see if that helps. Ive seen posts on here from guys that have run the 305 injectors with no problems, but i will swap mine out as soon as the new 350 ones come in.
Is there any defference between the iac for a 305 and one for a 350?
By the way, i have the 350 knock sensor in already.

swapping computers will get you nothing. The problem is the chip.

maybe, maybe not. It depends on the engine. You have to tune the chip, to match your engine.
