What head and intake manifold to use with 355?

I have a 355 with flat top pistons, stock crank, and a new cam with .454/.454 lift and i think 260 duration. I was wondering what some of you thought i should go with. I like the vortec heads iron and aluminum ones, but I need help. And I would like to know if anyone has used the intake manifold from jegs that makes your TBI to Multi Port injection.

It is hard to beat the bang for the buck you get with vortec heads. They can be had for cheap and are real performers. I would consider them with a vortec carb intake an adapter plate. You will need extensive chip work to make it all work in harmony though. Without it your car will be slow and an un-drivable mess.

SHifty is right, you'll need major prom work, for it to run good. If your keeping TBI for its reliabitly. Then I will suggest gm's tbi vortec intake. Also I had troubles when I put on a ported 454 thottle body. My old setup ran better with the 350 tbi, and cranked up injectors. This had been disscussed in more detail in a post Pablo started a while ago. Theres gotta be something with the air flow, and the injector pulsing, that cause problems at high rpms.

I did run a carb intake (rpm air gap vortec) with tbi adaptor plate, it ran pretty good, but in the high rpms it was lacking. I consider myself a pretty good prom tunner (I'm a journeyman Instrument tech, so I do this kind of stuff on an industrial level). Now I've got the 750 carb on there, Its the same as my 454 tbi was to about 3500rpm, then this carb really makes more power to 6000rpm.

Also I have stock size valves in my vortecs, but the heads are ported as much as was possible. There great heads, there gonna push my 4200lb truck into the 13s this summer.

I'm running a bored out Edelbrock TBI and some Trick Flow 23* heads, and I couldn't be happier. . . for the moment that is.

Yes if I was to do it all again , I would go to a carb, but as far a tbi goes, the bored out tbi intake is nice, now Im not sure if the GM tbi vortec intake can be bored (I think it can). A carb intake will make more power (in theory), than a tbi intake, but I don't know of anyone that doesn't have an issue with a carb intake.

Yeah, but then you run into the whole adapter plate issue thing, and raising your linkage up. . . to me, it's just a royal pain in the **** to get that TV Cable set right.

. . . although, a RPM Air-gap with a TBI on top sure does sound interesting . . . bye bye stock hood though with that one.

By carb I mean carburator, not carb intake. I agree with you that the bored tbi intake is the way to go. After running a crab intake with tbi adaptor, I don't recommend it. All the vac lines, as well as the mounts and bracketry had to be changed.

Don't know yet, but when it's all said and done I shooting for around 350 hp and 400 lb/ft. I'm still on my 1st chip burn since the swap, but I can find anybody local who will help me with PROM tuning

Right now, I'm guessing I'm sitting around 310 HP or so.

Did you get your own chip burner from moates.net? Because I got one too, but have yet to use it. Plus I haven't used it yet because I don't have an ALDL wire so that I can data log.

I have all the tools necessary to datalog, but I'm incapable of it. It's just not within my abilities. I can do an engine swap, but can't datalog. . . yeah, I know, I'm pathetic.
