Need help....did some datalogging

88 Camaro SC
Specs: Rebuilt 350 .040 over, World SR Torquer Heads, zz4 Cam, Holley TBI & Projection Intake. TBIChips.com chip, 88' 063 ECM

Hey guys, I wanna know what you think about some results I got after doing some datalogging at on my car. It starts and idles abit rough in open loop but smooths out after a couple seconds. Runs somewhat decent until it goes into closed loop. The blms start dropping down to about 108, 02 voltage jumps between .300 & .800. As the blms start to drop down it will not idle very good and will then die. With my est plugged in my timing is at about 40 degrees advanced. Computer shows no knock and no audible knock is heard. I still am using my orginal 305 esc because ive heard that it might not make a differance then switching to the 350esc. I have my fuel pressure turned way down.

Now with my est wire unplugged and base timing set at 28 degrees advanced it will start up idle decent(engine still warm). The will blms start drop to 108. It will then stay running and actually idle good. At about 2000 RPM the blms will settle around 124 or so. 02 voltage seems normal.

Some little problems I got that i have to fix yet is that my fan isn't coming on which I think is just the switch and I've got an exhaust leak on the drivers side header. I do seem to have a slight miss throughout the RPM range to. Also when I record on Winaldl it only record half of the table the rest doesn't record into the .txt file.

I know I got some chip burning to get into but thats why I got the tbichips.com chip just to get my car going. Just want to see what you guys think of what I got going on.

108 blms mean you're pig rich. On partial throttle I turned off closed loop mode, did all my tuning and got my BLMs between 124-130 around town, then turned it back on and let the computer take care of the real fine tuning. It takes a while but its worth it.

Are you using the Holley injectors?

yeah im using the holley injectors. I messed with timing somemore today and got it to actually stay running during closed loop and idles decent. Im going to datalog to see what my blms are now. I just can't figure out why my timing reads so high. Ive got about 21 degrees advance base timing and the computer was setting timing at 37-40. I just don't think what I found to be 0* is actually 0*. Ive got something messed up somewhere.

Went and ran it for a couple minutes. Started her up she was running fairly rough for a minute then started to smooth out. Once the o2 came in I could see I was very rich. Blms started to drop to 109 and it was haldly idleing almost wanted to die out. Pulled a plug out and it looked pretty black. Also I have code 43 stored in memory. I want to post my table but the columns are all messed up and it doesn't record anything past battery voltage. I have a usb-serial adapter, could that be my problem??

You're setting it with WAY too much base timing. You want your base at the distributor more like 8 or 10*. You REALLY need to start burning chips, that's way too modified of an engine to come even close without tuning it yourself. With that ZZ4 cam your timing curve is goiing to be way off too. You need to set about 8* base timing at the distributor and then control the rest of the timing with the computer not mechanically.

With a cam like that its going to be rich at idle, you need to correct for that in the chip. But, you don't want to turn the fuel pressure down because you're going to run out of fuel up top in the higher RPM. you've got a lot of tuning ahead of you, hope you planned for that.

My routine for setting the timing goes like this, I actually got to do it this morning after I swaped intake gaskets last night. Unhook the est wire, set timing to what ever is set in the chip. Find out what brian set it to, my guess it's between 0 and 6. It'll run like pooh till you hook up the est wire and reset the ecm, I cought my 747 not controling timing witht the est code set. So I made it a habit to unhook the battery after I set the timing. Thats all you need to do.

I say thats half your problem the rest is tuning around that cam. I have a cam in that range and I'm running open loop right now till I get some time to really work out the bugs in closed loop. It runs pretty good at part throttle, but idle really needs some work to make everything work factory smooth.
