value of a nice tbi car

i hope this is a good place to post this but i need to find out how much a very clean 91-92 RS tbi 5 speed car is worth with very good condition paint and interior. and around 80k miles on the stock motor and tranny. i was thinking around $3000 sound about right?

3K sounds a little high to me . . . but, for reference Kelly Blue Book, kbb.com says 3,100 and edmunds.com says 3,070 as dealer retail. Private party sale brings in almost $800 less.

$3000 should be the most you pay. It is amazing how little money these cars are worth even when they are in great shape like the one you found. It is hard to beat these cars when it comes to performance value.

How about a 100,000 mile car with new EVERYTHING and fast enough to kill LT1's with ease?

The only thing original on my car is the seats and dash pad.

Thanks https://www.thirdgen.org for helping me blow all my money on my car. . . you're the greatest

They are pretty rare and you don't run into them that much. No 350 car came with the T5 and only about 25% of RS' received it. Not sure about TPI cars but you don't see many of them either.

I feel compelled to weigh in here. I use KBB.com and it tends toward being a good guide for me when I am going to trade in a car for getting another one. Retail on my car is close to 5K. Private Party value is around 4K (just under). I've got 6500 in it right now and am contemplating a new top for around another 1K. A dealer wouldn't give me close to what I wante for it so the reality is that the car is priceless only to me.

Screw it. It's mine.

yeah the resale on these cars is crap however if you clean them up and restore them nicely and get them apraised you would be impressed at what they will give you for them. My TransAm is insured for 7500bux cuz its apraised for that ammount. Sure if I try to resell it I won't get that however if I feed it to a tree the collision insurance will give me 7500 for the car...so far I dumped about 3000cdn to buy the car and about 3500 for all my parts and detailing and paint. I love junkyard shopping.

I have been seeing many really low mileage (60K and less) RSes on autotrader.com. Most of them are listed around 8 or 9K. There is even a 91 L98 with 6K miles, he wants $19K. Doesn't mean that they will actually get that though. Cash in hand makes all the difference.
I would love to buy a rust free low miles RS to replace my mine. It would be like going back in time. Plus I get to keep daily driving a nice 30 mpg RS for another 10 years or so.

When my car only had a cat-back and open element I was getting 32mpg on highway trips. I loved it.

If you have the means to datalog you can see exactly where and when hiway mode kicks in. The AFR jumps to about 16:1. I doubt that 30mpg is realistic though with anything but stock, a mildly modded car with a good tune, or really takin it easy on the go pedal.

best thing i ever did to help my milage was throw in a sound system.

Also got to factor in where you're looking for the car. When i was looking i wound up buying mine for 3400. that was in 02. 96k on it, no rust, very nice paint, everything ran perfectly.

forgot to mention, system made it fun to drive w/o putting the pedal to the floor. I was getting almost 30 mpg on the hwy (crusin about 60) but i swapped form 273 to 327 so we'll see what that does.

Yeah I used to pull around 30mpg stock on the highway, 5 speed helps a bunch with that too I think. Now, I tend to cruise a bit faster (read 90-95). I only get maybe 20 now on the highway, but that's with some fast driving here and there. I like to see what i can get it up to on these empty highways in central IL.

Not sure about the older non World Class T-5's, but the WC-T5's mated to the L03 had a .63 fifth gear ratio. IIRC the TPI came with .74 fifth gear.

It took a dump That is mainly because I waited so long to do chip work. I still got over 22 on the highway. With chip work there is no doubt that I would have netted 25+ on highway scoots.

I got 23.8 MPG with my 350 on trip over the weekend, cruising @ 80mph.

Heading to LA in May. I am expecting around 25 MPG on that trip.

Did I mention I love my car?
