rich or lean?
how do i tell if my car is running rich or lean? Is it as simple as hooking up a fuel pressure regulator?....will that work?

Take a DMM and measure the O2 sensor voltage. Under .45 is lean and over .45 is rich. Roughly .45 is stoichiometric.
Where can I get one? I hooked up a laptop through an ALDL cable using Datamaster and it shows that I'm running lean, but I don't really trust that because I don't know how to interpret the data very well.

Look at the O2 volts in datamaster. Higher then .450 is richer then ~14.7:1, less means your leaner then ~14.7:1. Other then that, the stock O2 wont tell you much more.
The other thing to look at is BLM data. This can get you pretty close, provided your O2 is working properly.
As for the DMM, radioshack sells them if you want a budget meter. Ive been using one of their fancy ones with a freq. counter, cap. measurement, primitive laptop based datalogger/o-scope, etc. for the last six years and Ive never had any problems with it.

You can also post it on here. If you give it the file extention .bmp instead of whatever it normally has, the server will accept it as a pic and display it as a link in your post. Everyone can then download it, change the extention back, and view it.
Here is one I found that I recorded about a month ago. Yesterday I replaced my knock sensor. Please check it out and let me know what else it shows. I can't figure out how to read this thing!
