I think my fuel pump went out.

Is there a cheeper higher pressure unit aftermarket out there?
Is there a aftermarket unit that fits out side the tank?

Shifty recommended me the Walbro line of pumps since mine is going out as well. Your stock pressure regulator will work fine with these pumps. A stock GM pump will run you about 80 bucks. You can buy a kit from this site that includes the pump and all the parts needed for the install for about the same price.

A friend of mine installed an external pump and drawed through the stock pump and it hasnt caused problems. (MSD external pump) This was my original plan but shifty convinced me it would be half-*** NOT to replace the intank pump.

 

Auto Zone has a Bosh replacement for $50 and a off brand for 40 something.
It's really hot out here and I have a autocross next Sunday and I got a one piece welded stainless steel exhaust, So dropping the tank will be a real beach.
I'm hoping some one will see this thats installed a external pump, and can give me some pointers. also maybe a pump with a little more pressure would be nice.

Click on the link above and select one of the GM pumps. You will have it to your door in less than 4 days (got mine in 3) for $97. It will supply enough pressure and flow to feed a multitude of engine set-ups. You don't want to have to change it again if you plan on making more power down the road. The stock pump is very inadequte.

 

I made a access hatch to pull pump out from top worked great.

From what I've read I need about 13- 13.5 psi, will a stock pump do that?

It should but it may not supply that pressure/flow at WOT. It is fine for a stock LO3.

 

the L03 is stock with open airfilter and dual exhaust (no cat)

I think the next move will be to check regulater for psi at intake? make sure its getting what it can.

I tend to stay away from off-brand fuel pumps like you'd find at AutoZone. They don't last very long, and they whine like crazy when you get low on gas. I would feel much safer going with a GM pump.

 

Gez...now you tell me. I suppose the Bosh was made in China. I wonder if the GM pump would of been worth the extra money?

I'm not sure about the Bosh one, but it sounds like you could have done worse if there was an off-brand pump for $40, at least you didn't buy that one. Who knows, maybe you'll have good luck with the Bosh.

 

Don't go with off brand of GM pumps. Both are unreliable. For the same price you can get a Holley or Walbro (same pump) that will reliably supply more power than you can think of.
