wow, nice improvment!!

ok so i drag my car about a month ago, best time of, 16.604 @81.18 mph, not bad..had all the seats out, all the sound stuff out(radio, speakers, etc..) well since then, i put on an open element, removed the ridges on the tbi(ultimate tbi) and took the muffler off. i left the seats in and the sound stuff. and i ran a best of, 16.488 @ 82.74 mph!!! thats 11 tenths faster! with more weight. i think i can run 16.3's if i take the other weight out. very good and easy mods to make u a little quicker...

Headers, High Flow Cat, and a good catback system will give you signifigantly more power.

I would think that with a full exhuast and an open element you should be running a little quicker. What gears you got? and what kind of 60' are you pulling?

Might find your biggest gains in a FULL tuneup I'm thinking.

Thats actually a little over 1 tenth faster, not 11...
11 tenths is 1.1 seconds!

Still should be a lot quicker. Do the cap and rotor, new plugs, wires, pcv filter, fuel filter... Your trap speeds should be closer to 90mph. Try to get those 60's down closer to 2.0 as well

That doesn't sound very good for doing ultimate TBI mods, and cutting out muffler. A bone stock 305tbi auto truck can run in the 16's, and thats 1000lbs heavier than your car, with the aerodynamics off a cube van.

Yeah I agree man get some cap, rotor, plug wires and driving skills. You should deep into the 15's or at least mid 15's.

What everyone else is saying is correct, you should be a lot faster.

I notice one mod you did not mention was a free one-advance your timing. It is imo the best of the free/inexpensive mods u can do. If you have done this, then definetely get your hands on a laptop and winaldl and find out what your car is doing. If your timing is too far advanced it could be pinging up high, but ok down low thus making it feel faster but ultimately killing you.

Your 60' times are average for a peg leg 2.73 rear, but you should be running mid to high 15s at 90 mph or so. If you do go to the track anytime soon, definetely play with the timing in between runs.

from what i thought, i thought that i had a 3.40 rear? since it is an open diff. in hayne's manual, it has 2 rears listed for this car, a 2.73 posi, and a 3.40 open? is that right?

also, i just got my hands on a timming gun, it is set at 0* right now, would it be best to put it at 4 or 6* advance? or is it trial and error?

In '91, L03 cars had open differentials. Autos were 2.73 and 5-speeds came with 3.08's. I am pretty sure all L03 were setup like this, but I am not sure about the '88 IROCS with the 305 tbi

As far as timing goes, it is trial and error. L03s seem to like anywhere from 4-8* advance. Best way to do it is at the track and keep a close eye on your trap speeds, and find out where your engine likes the base timing the best.

Yeah if you are running an auto and have an 305 tbi rs then your gears are more then likely 2.73 open diff. I would try to pick up a some gears and a posi off of ebay. It should help you out a lot.
