Code 43 problems

Working on a 305 Tbi Camaro. Get code 43 at WOT. Car was running really good then as soon as code 43 pops up it will backfire and run like crap. Anyway, Ive tested the power wire to the esc, ground to the esc, and the knock sensor itself, only problem is that there is not 4-6 volts at the knock sensor, but I can't find out what to do about it, I check it with the ign on and eng off btw. I'm even willing to bypass this system all together if someone could tell me how. I even put in a new ESC but I didnt notice a difference. Is there a way to test the esc? I saw post that say check for open or short to ground, but I am unfamiliar with the term 'open', i know how to check to see if it's grounded. Any advice?
