belt routing

Hey guys, not sure if this went here, move it if you need too.

I got a 92 camaro, 305 TBI
Do I have to have a smaller belt to remove my smog? Or is there a way i can route my belt where I don't need it?

Thanks

you actualy need a longer belt. Because you have to route it diffrently to take the proper rotation of the water pump into account.

IIRC it was about 2"-3" longer than stock. I'll try to snap a pic of the routing when I get home.

There is also a tech article on the matter on the main page. I have a good pic I can post for you later. A few searches should bring up the info that you need.

Yeah man I think that you need the 97" belt. You can by a pulley to replace the smog pump. That is what I did. I was having problems with my alternator (burning them up). I burned up two before I just decided to put the pulley in and have not had a problem since.
