Is my key the reason my car wont start.
Hey guys, I have a 1989 camaro rs 305 TBI. Recently I am having trouble starting the car. It will turn over but no fuel is spraying through the injectors. I have heard many arguments that VATS on certain years or types of third gen camaros cause either no fuel to flow through the injectors or both no crank and fuel. Either way I checked my key for ohm's and got nothing. Is the little sensor or whatever in the key faulty? Or should I look elsewhere. BTW car will start if I pour fuel into TB, so it has ignition, and the fuel pump is priming.

I checked for codes by inserting a paperclip in the a and b slot at the ALDL and it just repeats code 12. So does the computer acknowledge any faults? The security light goes off after two seconds also. Thats why I am not 100% positive. I am going to the dealership to search for some free knowledge and to get my key checked by them. But if you have any suggestions please let me know.

I dont recall whether it sets the code while running or while cranking and running. It may still be a vats issue. The other possibility is bad injector drivers, which Ive heard of before.

Check everything else BEFORE you get into vats, its expensive and a pain to locate and test the components, we had damn near the entire dash out of the rs trying to locate the module to test and we ended up finding a relay for the shifter burned up!!
As per my source when vats is screwy or "engaged" the car will not turn over

I am having the same exact problem, I have tried replacing the cap rotor wires plugs (needed a tune up anyway) my injectors were bought from autozone so I had the warranty got new one, repaced the fuel pressure regulator and pickup coil, the old one has fallen apart inside the dist. and still nothing, it fired for a day or two after I change the pu coil but ran like crap and now haow stopped, I suspect that it is the igntion coil, but it is a MSD blaster 2 only a few years old, how can I check it? I think I will be going to autozone in the next day or so and just buying anew stock coil for testing purposes, any other ideas? I have checked all fuses and the ecm(went to the boneyard and got a new one) but still nothing, I was thinking if no one has any ideas trying to bypass the vats system like the posting say... please help I have been forced to use my 1964 continetal as my driver for the last two weeks and gas is killing me with that 440 HELP
