LT1 cam for 350?
Hello all!
I am new to the board, and while I dont have a firebird or camaro, but I do like the tech info found here. This board was referred and spoken highly of over on astro safari.com .
My project is a 86 astro van with the weak 4.3 v6. Yesterday I got a 350 out of a truck. it is a fresh re-build with under 20,000 miles. The rear gears are a 3.73 and the trans will be a new 700R4.
I want to make this van powerful enough to dust some of these riceburners, and make it just plain fun to drive...
I hear a lot of the LT1 cam, but mostly it seems geared to a 305. Since I have a 350, would it be worth my time to swap, or should I leave well enough alone.
thanks!

Definately worth it if you have a roller block. If not go down to your local parts store and ask for the mellings MTC1 cam kit. It is virtually identical to the Crane 2030 that is a popular upgrade for the TBI 350.

Can't unless you tear the intake off!. You have to make sure that it has the roller cam bosses in place and Tapped in the lifter valley.
No, hydraulic flat tappet. It is actually meant for an older carbed engine but works with TBI due to its mild nature. It has 114* lobe centers, 204* @ .050 intake, 214* @ .050 exhuast, .423" lift intake, .442" exhaust. I had it on a 355 with 305 heads and it ran decent.

Nice. Here is what I have and tell...
I have L98 stock longblock with stock tbi manifold, stock tbi with 55lb injectors and a chip from tbichips. Oh yeah also I have an openelement, headman shorties ypipe, no cat, full 3"exhaust.
I was wondering if you had any recommendations for cam, intake, head work?, and tbi to get pretty good power.
You seem to have the skinny on all combos.
Thanks
Bill
