Now that I know the motor HP???

The 91 Rally sport has a 305 v-8 and has decent power but not really what I would like. What are some things I can do or parts I can buy to add 30-50 more HP? Please direct me to source where I can purchase the items.
Sorry for all the newby questions but your help is appreciated.

thanks,
fisherman

well start out with the simple mods first, I'll be doing an open air element which is good for about 10hp gain, and a catback exhaust which is good for another 15-20hp....

It doesnt take that much to get these cars to about 200hp...it just takes money and determination as to whether or not the mod is worth it....I'll prolly do just a small exhaust set up and open element, I dont wanna go crazy as I am saving up for an 96+ Z28

1.6 rockers, exhaust and open element could net you close to 50hp depending on part quality and exhaust quality. All of these can be found at summitracing.com for next to nothing.

i'd say if you wanted a decent setup your looking at 300 for the cat back, another 300 for headers, another 300 for rocker arms if you go full roller or as cheap as under 100 bucks if you go with a stamped or roller tip design, then another 50 bucks for an open element with k&n look a like filter.

You really get a 10hp gain from an Open Element air filter?? I just installed one.

It ultimately depends, I just installed my open element yesterday and I noticed an improvement, the car might take a little while longer so the CPU can adjust to this new filter (as opposed to the highly restrictive one it previously had)

I noticed that when I installed it, I lost some off the line torque but the car picked up alot faster, and I just installed my muffler today and it sounds mean and my acceleration/throttle response is moved up the yay...

it should be about 10hp to the crank maybe, prolly around 5 of it goes to the wheels, which still isn't bad...also this installation of the air cleaner solved alot of my car's problems, the idle is smooth now (it maybe that I had a vacuum leak) an increased air flow...

I love my car

I didnt mean it by that way, I guess what I am trying to say is the torque kinda moved upwards for higher rpms, which is better in my opinion.

As for the American Thunders...you can get better for cheaper...I am not dissing on the flowmasters or anything but Hooker sells a good kit for about 270 bucks and the Edelbrock seems to go well with these cars as well...

I am gonna custom build my exhaust crap, make it sound like no other...

i doubt you guys will see a significant improvement out of either of those mods but, that's just me. I've been told swapping to 1.6 rockers is a good true 10-15hp which is beleiveable with our pos cams in most of these cars. That's what i'd do personally...... If you don't have emissions like me gut the cat or rip it off and put a decent muffler in it and you will no longer have half as bad of an exhaust.

Just saying best money to power ratio is probably a set of stamped 1.6 rockers and a open element and a new muffler.
all could be had for under 300 bucks ( muffler say 70, open element with filter 30, rockers about 60)and should net you a true 20hp or so.

from the muffler and the air filter I prolly gained like 15-17hp at the crank....I can guarantee myself that, I dunno, its hard to say without the dyno results but the car feels alot more powerful than before....as far as gutting the cat, I am thinking of it, except I won't gut the cat out, instead I'll swap in an exhaust cutout before the cat and uncap it as I please. I still have emmissions stuff to worry about.
