Will This Work??
OK i've been itchin to get one of ProForm's Black chevy open element air cleaners from summit. Now i finally got some giftcards and what not and i'm gonna purchase it..however i have 1 BIG question: Will it work for my car??
It doesn't say whether its a drop base or nondrop and i'm not sure whats up with it? Can anyone check it out and give me a heads up as to what it is and to confirm it will work in my car???
Its summit part # PRO-141-752

any 14x3 inch filter will work for your car. That one you picked is a dropped base one and you will need to go to your local autoparts store and pick up a TBI plastic ring spacer...they sell em' at checker's for 10 bucks, albeit they are not the best quality but they get the job done well.
Your gold iridite ring will not clear that air filter from rubbing up against your ignition wires. So you need to buy those plastic ring spacers that i told you in order to clear any wires. What I did was cut a small piece of cardboard out and I put the cardboard piece in between the wire and the the air cleaner housing.
But in short words, that will work, but really you don't need anything fancy like that. A 30 dollar Edelbrock air cleaner will get the same job done...

When I installed mine, I had a hard time deciding which one to use, the stock spacer ring was too small and my wires were in full frontal contact with my housing, so I used the bigger base of the TBI spacer and it still rubbed surprisingly, but then I added the additional piece and it didn't rub at all. However just to be on the safe side I still added that piece of cardboard in between the wires and the housing. Never hurts to double check.
You shouldn't run into any hood clearance issues at all. All you have to make sure of is when you finish completely installation of the air cleaner, to very slowly drop the hood checking for hood clearance as you lower. Be gentle closing it from then on everytime you pop open the hood.
