300 rwhp l05?
I was wondering if it's possible to get my l05 to 300rwhp and still pass ca smog. I was planning on rebuilding my l05, porting the heads, using an lt1 cam, 1 3/4 headers, gmpp 2" intake and 454 tbi ported out. Will this get me where i want to be? I would like to be up there with the modded tpi's and was wondering if this was a realistic goal.
My main concerns is the heads and cam. I am not sure of the l05 heads will support the power and if the lt1 cam is to small. Maybe zz9 and trickflows?

That's not smog legal. That's not to say it won't pass.
When you say your LO5, obviously you're not talking about a 1990 Camaro motor. So its a transplant. To be legal it would have to come from a 1990 or newer passenger car with the computer and everything from the donor car. If your car came with a TBI you could fake it. But I don't believe you can change the induction to a gmpp intake and 454 tbi because to my knowledge they do not have a CARB number.
But maybe you have a friend who works in the smog business who might not notice. As for getting it to burn clean, someone else will have to tell you how to do that.

Definitly not, sorry but those mods won't let you see 230RWHP even, let alone pass CA smog. Sorry but it'll take ALOT more than that.

i think that cam is much to small. Think bigger. As for the heads i think you could flow a good sized cam if your a decent porter but, are you???
The combo you posted to my eyes looks good except the cam. Heads may or may not get you your 300rwhp goal but, with a good port job and fair sized cam it would definetly net 300flywheel fairly easily.

hey i was gonna ask the same question. I have an L05 in mine and have stock heads and cam. I was also wondering what the best upgrades for the money would be. I've heard that vortec hams are the way to go and a lt1 cam helps alot too. Also, what type of headers fit the L05 really well? my goal as well is to get this engine at or past 300 hp but with it being 205 stock, its a far reach. anybody have any suggestion on a good way to get this thing up there???
Thanks

Turbo wouldn't be anywhere smog legal, the entire system would scream "Let Me Fail", besides one would enter the "wonderful" world of blow-through, which is always tougher with carb and TBI than with TPI etc etc

I believe you you run 92 octane or Supreme, it burns alot better and cleaner than regular Unless your timing is set at 0*TDC, This is a step that will help you pass.. I do not know about cali. Smog laws, but here in maine there are no smog laws yet.. as i knock on wood..

Well, I was asking because i knew if i put on trickflow heads, and upgraded the intake, i was just going to get a tpi and slap it on. I have already passed smog with the l05. Who can look at a block and tell that it's a 305 or 350 that works in a smog center? The trickflows are legal, and i thought the intake was legal too. The 454 tbi, i doubt any tech will spot it and say it's not legal. I guess i will just hold onto my setup as is and wait for an ls1 transplant. Thanks guys!

Check the casting numbers to tell you what block it is.
www.mortec.com
Also, look behind the drive side valve cover on the top part of the block. You should see some raised lettering that says either 5.0 or 5.7.
Not to be arguementative, but why not take it to a referee and get it out in the open that its an LO5? As long as everything is legit you'll get a sticker saying it should be smogged as whatever car the motor came from. Then you got one less thing to get past them. The smog techs might not be so **** if they see that a ref OKed it. That's what I'd do. If your car fails twice for any reason it is catagorized a gross polluter.

good point. I have to square up some other things right now though. Deciding if i want a better l05 in my car or going all out and getting an ls1. Big difference in price and performance.

Well I know for a fact that a cam with 204/214 .429 .452 and 116 will make 319hp and 399 lb/ft at the flywheel with stock heads with 65# injectors and a tune. This cam is offered by Crane and is meant for computer controlled and emissions ran cars. I passed my Atlanta smog last year with this cam, Trick Flow heads and a terrible tune.
