Defective

Can a defective EGR valve kill gas mileage ?

Yeah when i'm cruising around at approx. 30mph the trans shifts into overdrive , but as soons as its in OD the engines drops really low in RPM's , like 900-1000 rpm ...

That sounds normal. OD should shift around that mph under part throttle. If you don't want the car to shift that early than keep the shifter in 3rd until you reach higher speeds.

EGR has no effect on the transmission.

Anyway I reseted the ECM yesterday , took a drive to tech school this morning and I self diagnosed it and the only trouble code flashing was 32 , wich is a defective EGR .

There's no fuel leaks and the EVAP system seems ok , so maybe it is the EGR valve ?
(I don't think EVAP as anything to do with fuel consssumption...)

That is correct however it may just be stuck and or need to be cleaned. GM EGR failures are very common and have happened to almost every GM car I/we have ever owned.

Replaced EGR's on

'95 cavy
'98 cavy
'90 RS
'94 suburban
'95 Z28

yea ive had to do that once to a saturn. the egr valve was stuck either open or closed used some carburetor cleaner and kept swishing it around inside cleaning all the carbon off. and if it goes in and out it works
