Car Stops At 115 MPH
Car Stops At 115 MPH
First, I hope this is the right section to post this.
I would do a search but I can't figure out what to search for!?
So my question is what do I need to do to reach a higher speed without the computer stoping the car at 115?
Note; the speedo is off due to a 3.73 swap so i'm not really doing 115 but the computer thinks I am.
Plus, i'm in the middle of finding the correct drive & driven gear for the speedo.
Thanks.......

There is a setting in the chip that you can change to let you go higher speeds. I also think that there is a write up in the tech articles on how to disable it with out burning a chip.

put a switch between the signal wire of the speed sensor and the computer. flip it to kill the signal and continue on, just remember it affects lock up and shiftin i beleive

the mock up fix for bypassing the speed limiter is a bit backyardish, it's not really even a fix, it's like putting on a toggle for your fuel pump because you don't want to figure out where the wiring is messed up to it.
I'd suggest setting yourself up for chip tuning as opposed to it, it'll cost you more, but you'll get far more out of it in the long run.
you'd be suprised how little of a difference those speedo gears make btw, I've got the 16" iroc rims and 3.42 gears on my car that has a speedo setup that's for the 15's and 2.73's(although I think the rims still maintain the 26" diameter) and I've done a few "drive next your friend and ask how fast they're going" tests, it's not even off at 50 mph...just letting you know.
oh, and if you do get setup for chip tuning, the programs you use I believe give you your realtime mph, I'm not exactly sure how the ecm reads it, but the actron scanner I used as opposed to the programs basically told me that all my gauges were wrong(oil pressure, coolant temp, rpms, so on), so you might get your ACTUAL mph, or at least the original mph of your factory setup and be able to tell the percentage difference.
