Hey guys... my smog pump is acting up.. and the pully on it is knocking or something.. its just running like crap not really sure what the problem is with it... but the fix that i'm looking at doing is:
A. Removing it
or
B. Replacing It
whats easier and are there any benefits from removing it and what does it involve would i have to put a fake pully there or what?

I would just pull it. You'll need 8 1/4 inch pipe plugs, and a pipe cap for the part that comes off the exhaust pipe. And a replacement belt for when you pull the pump. You'll need this belt: 935K6

If you don't have to take emissions testing then go ahead and remove it. You only need to undo the two bolts up front and I believe theres a line in the back that runs to the catalytic converter (I don't remember). Then buy a new belt and reroute it like this (second picture down)...

It's pretty simple, shouldn't take more than half an hour if you pace yourself.

I believe there is a delete pully available, but theres no need for it. If your subject to a visual inspection, then you may want to retain the pump.

I believe the dayco p/n for the belt is 968K6 not 935K6. I used the equivalent of a 970K6 and it worked fine. It was the closest the NAPA had and my wife works at NAPA. Will the 935K6 actually fit?

I had to get the shorter belt 935K6 to work when I removed the pulley. I still have PS and the water pump. At least I think. Lemme check it.

Ditch the pump like you did and use the stock length belt, just like I did.
dont know how you used the stock length.. but i allready installed the other belt.. i think the 395 or 935 or whatever.. the smaller one... and it works great.

Just a tip if you remove the smog pump. The longest bolt should be put back in and tightned because that bolt attaches the bracket to the engine block. If you put that bolt back in you will have less vibration when the AC is on.

I am actually looking for a smog pump for my SB350 truck. It is a '79 so I still need all of the emissions stuff. I got the GMPP Serpentine Kit, but my stock air pump doesn't fit the supplied bracket. I need one out of a 88-92 F-Body. The GM part number is 7849154. If anyone has one that they are looking to get rid of please let me know.

the stock size is slightly short, the 935k6 was way too short. I'm going to try the next size up from the stock and see how that works.
